Just what I Needed

Come Together (Beatles Cover)

After the success of their debut EP "Generation Why", creative forces have overtaken The Noolands and questions about the very fabric of their existence have been raised. The continued, looming friction of "the industry" has caused a break in the band's understanding of the world they live in. Everything they'd ever been told was true, but they continue to trust in themselves and in their best friends. 

Through a series of serendipitous events, a song was recorded called "Record Man". The song that is the very subject matter the lyrics consistently poke at and represents the important decisions a band must make. One day maybe we too will be grasped by the hands of the record man.

More than a song, “Too Close” is an expression. Feeling boxed in, out of control and starved of choice is a potent emotion we’re all too familiar with. The moments that galvanize us can sometimes be the same moments that destroy us. It’s about that situational tipping point that we obsess over, but ultimately can’t control. You seem to get closer as you run away from your problems while you watch others on the same, repeating a loop. Like cars on the other side of an anxious highway.

You can turn around and head the other direction before you’ve gone too far, but sitting still is never an option. Your mind will race as you find your place because you fear by the time you have it figured out, it will be too late. Our new song expresses this with it’s scrappy, disco-rock vibe and poignant lyrics. Everything is always what it seems, so don’t get too close...

1992 is a bittersweet summer tune that explores the human fear of change. The nostalgia woven into the song invites the listener to go back to a time when certain patterns prevented a fuller expression of their innate love and authenticity. The message & lyrics can be interpreted as taking accountability for a new type of future. One of higher consciousness. The soundscape of 1992 illustrates the desire to start things over with hopeful instrumentation peeking through fragmented echoes of the past, wrapped in a vintage tone. The best part is that it was all recorded and mixed alone from home, truly an inside job. Overall the song is about accepting troublesome parts of who we are and to face ourselves instead of running away. Overcoming limitations and conquering fear were the key ingredients to this song, and we hope that it gives friends & fans a glimmer of hope in uncertain times.

1992 (Killing My Love)

The Noolands are an eclectic group of longtime Canadian friends from Barrie Ontario with a tendency to float between rock genres and yet still maintain a uniquely focused and familiar vibe. Over the last 5 years, the group cultivated their fanbase organically from the ground up with two EPs, rounds of singles and music videos, eventually producing two charting songs, sold out shows & festivals around Canada and becoming a beloved staple of their hometown music scene and beyond. Their latest nostalgic summer release 1992 melds sounds similar to Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire and Wilco with the unstoppable momentum of Oasis. The song explores the fear of change and accepting troublesome parts of who we are.
