Manchester's Fox has been a staple at The North Quarter events since the label's inception. We are very happy to unveil his first full length project on the label with Squang Dangs in the Key of Vibes.

His versatility and deep history as an artist now come together in a well rounded album, informed by blue notes, Dub music, MC culture and Fox's vibrant lyrics, both warm and cold. This is the work of a truly gifted artist that's out to command the respect he so clearly deserves.

The follow-up to last year's 'NQ State of Mind' mix project is headed by two of The North Quarter's most enduring artists: Redeyes and Fox. Mixtapes represent an important symbol of the formative years of many of the artists on this Amsterdam-based label and so it's only right that the tradition is continued by Redeyes and Fox, who both have a long history as music enthusiasts. Consisting solely of TNQ music - including 10 exclusives - this is NQ State of Mind, Vol 2.

  Throughout 31 tracks, mixed by 'smooth operator' Redeyes and backed with Fox's uplifting vocals, this is a journey through The North Quarter's five year catalogue. All artists that make the label the respected entity it is today are featured as well as some unexpected faces. The 10 exclusive tracks will be released on a 2x12” gatefold LP to accompany the mix.

When was the last time you listened to an actual ‘mixtape’? You probably think of one of the many mixes inhabiting our digital social spheres, which you might give a quick click or a fast listen. Dutch Drum and Bass connoisseurs Lenzman & Dan Stezo go back in time with the launch of their ‘Soul Tape’, an actual 60 minute cassette tape meant for the discerning Drum and Bass lover.

The Soul Tape is a limited give-away. The hand-crafted package comes in a hard-cover box, with additional T-shirt and a variety of stickers - all with custom artwork by Team Blazin'. Besides that The Soul Tape is a ‘cool’ and fresh (but hyper-traditional) take on the mix-format, it stems from Lenzman and Dan Stezo's 90s ritual of making Hiphop tapes for each other in school.

The Soul Tape exhibits tracks from the world’s finest Drum and Bass artists, blended by Lenzman with Dan Stezo’s narrative slang and distinct voice-over. As a combination they have worked together since 2003, and recently increased their collaborative spirit both on stage and on record. 2014 saw their first release ‘Move & Focus’ together as a combination on the esteemed Metalheadz imprint as part of Lenzman's debut album 'Looking At The Stars.

Lenzman’s tremendous success in his genre and his tour the force around the world doesn't keep him from maintaining a close circle. Long time confidant Team Blazin' adds the artwork in the form of handwritten calligraphy which articulates the Hiphop aesthetics, the three artists’ connecting factor and their shared stylistic background.

The Soul Tape is not for sale, as it is an initiative out of love for the craft, the music and their heritage. The 50 limited edition tapes will be given away to fans over a period of time. After six years with seminal label Metalheadz, building his reputation through a steady output of Soulful Drum & Bass, Lenzman is about to embark on a new journey: launching his own label.

The North Quarter, named after the neighbourhood where he grew up, will be an outlet for both
his own productions as well as music by like minded individuals, who share a love and dedication for all things soulful. Naturally its first release is a Lenzman EP: ‘All For You’.

Taking everything that has shaped him musically and has meant something to him over the years, Lenzman is combining these ingredients to create something heartfelt. Music with imperfections,

After launching to great acclaim, The North Quarter returns for chapter two of its journey: Lenzman's 'Earth Tones EP'.

Consisting of eight new tracks (plus an additional two instrumentals), and featuring a host of collaborators, both old and new, the release carries directly on from the 'All For You EP'. Lenzman once again melds his Hip Hop, Soul and Jazz influences with his take on Drum & Bass to bring together an EP of heartfelt inner city music.

'In My Mind' sees the producer team up with IAMDDB, a Neo Soul singer who is part of a new wave of exciting upcoming artists from Manchester. Her unique voice and disconnection from Drum & Bass gives the two a chance to forge a new direction.

The Blueprints EP marks the welcome return of the talented Toulouse based producer Redeyes. Following a number of releases on seminal labels such as Bingo, Creative Source, Innerground and Brownswood in the mid 2000s, Redeyes then decided to take a step back from music production. Now returning as a more complete and mature artist, his Blueprints EP on Lenzman’s The North Quarter imprint sends an exciting message of where Julien Salvi stands in 2017.

Comprising of an ambitious nine tracks, Redeyes’ Blueprints EP showcases his exquisite musicianship and ability in the studio throughout each piece of music. In true North Quarter style, he effortlessly breaks down the boundaries between Drum & Bass and Hip Hop, whilst fully maintaining the soulful and heartfelt aesthetic that he is known and revered for.

Last year Julien ‘Redeyes’ Salvi showed off his versatility on his Blueprints EP. He now takes it one step further with the release of “Broken Soul”, his first full length project for The North Quarter. Through twelve sincere tracks, the Toulouse-based artist showcases an action-packed storyline co-starring some of the most sought-after vocalists in the game. Polish producer Satl steps out of his comfort zone and explores his Dub Techno influences on his new Lucid Dreams EP: his sophomore release on Amsterdam boutique label The North Quarter.

Consisting of six brooding, yet elegant tracks, “Lucid Dreams” is the work of an artist taking creative risks in order to grow and find his voice. Having made the move from Rotterdam to Gdańsk at the start of the year, Satl spent his lockdown delving into his love for Techno; looking to translate it into his Drum & Bass productions - with exceptional results.

"This EP to me is an exploration of a sound that I've loved for some time, but never really felt confident enough to attempt. A more raw, techno-inspired, but still elegant and classy form of Drum and Bass," he explains. "I always strive to push myself forward, and I feel really good about this project. It's a step outside of my comfort zone. A project that I'm really proud of."

Echo Brown, a fresh talent from Raleigh (NC), will be dropping his confident “Struggles EP” on February 12th, his debut on The North Quarter. Having previously showcased his signature lo-f chords on “Show You” and his classy flip of Submorphics' “Daydreaming”, Echo Brown now presents a beautifully-rounded 6-track piece showing of his full range as a producer.

On “Affirmations”, one of the project's highlights, the young artist teams up with Manchester's KinKai, delivering a heartfelt and meaningful track that transcends genres. Later, on “Tug O War”, Abnormal Sleepz steps up and lays down his trademark introspective bars on this masterful Hip Hop cut. The rest of the project sees Echo Brown seamlessly weave through moods and ideas utilizing his signature hazy chords and vibes - not dissimilar to cloud rap – with refreshing results.

“This project really has been a culmination of a lot of different emotions I've felt over the past few years. Some of the tracks I wrote well under stress of the usual circumstances we all deal with while living out our lives” Echo Brown explains. “Fear of health, money, love; the fear of unjust discrimination, and hatred for being different. This EP really captures those vibes, and puts them into perspective; at least to me they do. And now, with Covid-19, I think it suits the situation quite well; and can be a piece of work that a lot of people can relate to. I think that's really important at the end of the day - to make something that resonates fiercely with the common human being.”

All in all, “Struggles EP” shows a glimpse of a bright future for a new wave artist that exhibits unusual maturity with his own unique sound.
