Sand & Pine Vol. 1 is a mix inspired by my current surroundings in the Balearic Islands. Perfect listening for a cruise down some winding roads, lounging at the beach or a chill day at home. Summer '14 Inspires

This mix is about the celebration of life. The small things that when combined are what make up happiness. Inspired from the the people I have shared moments with, the places I have explored and even the solitude that everyone needs to ponder from time to time. It is a privilege and pleasure that we have an open book which we can sketch our wildest dreams. Whether you are going on a walk, exploring the outdoors or cooking up a storm, take it in stride.

Take It In Stride I

My most recent LIVE set that I played at Cafe Koi. The first 20 minutes is me playing 100% improv, creating whatever came to mind on the spot. The rest of the set is material that I had written & practiced in the month leading up to the event. There were both originals and covers played at the show. Yes there were some mistakes made throughout the set, that is human error and that was bound to happen given the amount of improvising I was doing. I have made small edits to withdraw some of the more noticeable errors. The artwork is the live painting that was created by Kate Wiebe while I was playing music. There was a huge amount of emotion poured into this set, I hope that it shows and that you enjoy. This is yet another huge stepping stone for me. I am so excited to build off of it and bring you more music in the near future!

LIVE @ Cafe Koi - 14/10/2016

A year ago I put out the first instalment of what I am now realizing is a reflection of where I am and what music has been inspiring me - this is the continuation of that story. The past year has been very constructive and educational, I have to thank all of my family, friends and fans who have helped me push my passion. My life has been focussed in the city the past year and I wanted that to show with an urban feel to this mix. Travelling between different tempos, styles and melodies I hope you enjoy this wherever you are in the world.

BFTS 059 Theo Hansen

One more trip around the sun and so much has happened. It has been a year of growth, learning and new connections. Feelings of pushing myself past the limits and accomplishing things that I might have not believed I could do. Making new friends and collaborating on projects has been a big part of the growth I have experienced. One thing I have wanted to do more of is play extended sets, I quite often find myself searching for the groove and sometimes the overall vision can't be captured in a short period of time. I wanted to create a mix that would achieve that - to be enjoyed on long drives or even just to get you through your daily activities.

My set from my favourite summer party (which has gone online due to reasons we all know). Thanks to everyone that tuned in and I hope you all enjoy either re-listening or enjoy listening to it for the first time now. Thanks so much to the versions crew for having me play and a huge special thank you to Isis Graham for making it all happen. She is my biggest local DJ inspiration and I am so grateful to call her my friend and to have been given the opportunities that I have had through her. The mix is in mono, but I don't think that will take away from the special night that it was. I don't often post up live DJ mixes, but this one was really memorable for me.

Deep and emotive electronic music DJ & producer from Canada, currently residing in Ibiza.

Theo Hansen has become synonymous with thoughtfully curated DJ sets, worldly track selection and creative live performances. It began with deejaying at friends parties from a young age which quickly evolved into performing at nightclubs, raves and festivals. From there, it wasn’t long until he gained interest in promotion and hosting events in his hometown of Calgary, AB. Theo’s fascination with sound and music has always been a deep passion, and those who know and meet him quickly notice his devotion.

At the age of 19 he attended the London School of Sound (UK), where his talent and curiosity continued to take shape. Refined knowledge and understanding of production, recording and sound engineering only served to forge new paths for musical expression. After his studies he returned to Canada and horizons broadened, new partnerships arrived. Habitat Living Sound - Calgary’s favourite electronic music institute is where Theo curated his residency Prism; a night dedicated to promoting the broadest spectrum of 4/4 electronic music possible. Over the course of his DJ career he has had the opportunity to warm up the decks for the likes of Tiesto, Sasha, MK, Carl Craig, Dennis Ferrer, Danny Howells, Tigerskin and dozens of others. His sound has developed into a combination of eclectic melodies, deep grooves, jazzy basslines and so much more. His musical taste has always been broad - knowing the importance of being able to cater to various settings while always being true to the music he loves and shares with people.

In 2019 he joined forces with chef Alec Fraser to unite culinary arts and music into one project. They created the Back Of House, which made a quick impact on the local and international scene. Their collaboration with BassBus - Bistrothèque, proved that this unique idea is a force to be reckoned with. They hosted 200 people, serving up food and music at the incredibly scenic Southern Alberta Pioneers Memorial Building. Staff Meal, their monthly podcast that highlights food and music culture from around the world is yet another creatively brilliant idea that is garnering the attention of folks from abroad. With their podcast, they create episodes that feature music from artists only from a chosen country, then pair that with a dish and drink also from that specific nationality. This became a beautiful way to discover new music from around the world and also to connect with so many of these artists. The outpour of support from deejays of these different countries was profound.

Theo Hansen’s innovative approach is being seen through the wide array of diverse projects that he involves himself with. He continues to devote his time to creating new DJ mixes, producing songs and sharing his love of music through performance. Most recently he has taken the plunge to move to the iconic island of Ibiza to immerse himself in the rich music and club culture. Whether it be playing a daytime poolside set or late night at a club, he knows how to control a room of various settings.
