Andrei Morant - Trash Talker (Justin Kase remix) [Ill Bomb Records]

Scope Recordings closes 2013 with a staple release by label head Andrei Morant.  His single Falling Down is nothing short of black tie techno:  timeless and ingeniously simple.

The title track begins with a straightforward introduction that unexpectedly veers into a chromatic descent.  A sturdy bassline guides harmonizing stabs that tiptoe out of sight and back again.  Falling Down is effectual vintage.  

The B-side, Companion, has keys echoing off one another while castanets, claps, and ghostly conversation season an unwavering low end.  The track is inherently versatile and can lend an edge to a deeper set, or add complexity to a basic foundation. Due out mid-december

Following in the footsteps of Sawlin and Yan Cook last year, Ann Aimee has readied its next release. This one comes from UK tastemaker and Radio 1 presenter Mosca, and is his first release of the year after previous releases on labels like Martyn’s 3024 and Hypercolour.

First up is ‘It's Not What It Looks Like’ - a hunched over, industrial tinged house groove with rattling percussion and a heavy kick drum. Fully of grainy textures and clanging machines, the whole thing is backlit with serene pads and smeared with deft synth patterns. ‘Kneecap’ is even more direct, with tiny little off kilter chords bringing a sense of paranoia to the barrelling beats and bristling percussion. It’s muscular and heavy yet inviting, whilst final offering ‘Press Up’ is a beautifully swung bit of deep and atmospheric house – all the edges are nicely frayed and the whole thing is smoothed over with misty textures as the barrelled-up sense of funk grows more and more lively as things progress. It’s been a while since we heard from Mosca, but this one sure was worth the wait.

As always with this lovingly crafted label, the EP comes with full cover artwork by Boris Tellegen.

BIOGRAPHY :
Andrea De Venuto alias Andrew Project was born in Bari on 20/05/1981, in the city which passed the first 18 years of his life, before he met his greatest love: "MUSIC". His collaborations in the field of public relations for the most exclusive clubs in Puglia, Italian and international (Camelot, Divinae Follie, Clorophilla, Insomnia, Cocoricò, Echoes, Space Ibiza, Circoloco DC10 Ibiza), strongly induce him to approach the music scene under other art form. Dj since 2004, supported by a large artistic component, offers his sound from the more experimental facets. Electronic music lover, his performances are inspired mainly to the likes of Marco Carola, Raresh, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Carl Lekebusch and many more. Technological sounds and sought after by large deep grooves, alternate melodies and going rhythmic, driving the music sequence with jokes no more than 124 bpm.
On 16-04-2011 follows an important personal goal, working with a large stable of Bologna musical scene: the "PlayHouse" performing at the "Link" in the garden without 'the same evening which housed a performing artist of excellence labeled "Cocoon Rec" : Raresh.
In the same period from birth to a new musical project (On Air Party) with the 'intention of making traveling during preserata most exclusive music scene of Bologna, transforming the classic aperitif in a real musical laboratory. In his future plans in the short term, he hopes soon to be able to devote to production, with the hope one day to be part of the major labels that dominate the international music scene.

Alan Fitzpatrick’s latest EP is the product of a particularly productive six months of studio time for the Drumcode regular. Containing five tracks that cover a circular range from pre-party ambiance to tripped-out melodic odyssey; vocal laced, chord driven hooks; barnstorming peak-time hammers; and 123bm afterparty grooves; there is more than the ‘usual’ Drumcode fare on offer within the aptly named ‘Life Through Different Eyes’ EP. A significant release for artist and label; the sonic incarnation of Fitzpatrick’s growing maturity as a producer and an indication as to the next evolution of the Drumcode sound.
