Subliminal Exercise is a tape-based plunderphonic radio program recorded live every other Thursday at 9PM MST, under the umbrella of the Outer Heaven program on 101.1 KSFR. It is highlighted and edited for rebroadcast on Radio Brennpunkt, and this archive is a collection of my favorite episodes. The heart of Subliminal Exercise is re-contextualizing new age tapes alongside contemporary experimental music, field recordings, and popular music by using the physical medium of the tape to change the speed or playback direction of the audio.

gloaming outside lubbock, tx is the newest release by experimental musician Theo Krantz.
The piece is two radiophonic tracks, assembled over the course of 2021-2023 and performed at CO-OPT in Lubbock, TX.

gloaming outside lubbock, tx addresses themes of environmental degradation and personal alienation, the deliberate yet subtle textural shifts within the composition give shape to the feelings of loss and unease stemming from these anxieties that linger at the edges of both our inner and outer worlds.
Over the course of its nineteen-minute duration, this radiophonic work casts the organic tones of strings, reprocessed through magnetic tape, against a backdrop of tuned radio static and industrial machinery. Interspersed within this sonic landscape is the mechanical voice of an automated weather service, delivering readings and temperatures with an uneasy clip. As the piece progresses, the voice gradually becomes distorted amidst the evolving interplay of mechanical drones and synthetic hums, crafting an electronic landscape that subverts any traces of organic sound. This process is reversed and repeated throughout the piece, as organic instrumentation emerges and is obscured in turn.
