Here is a sneak-peek from Lab 2013! So, why use my own piece? Well, it seems I have all the permissions necessary to just give it away like this :)And, in truth, I am happy to do so to help spread the word about this great group of students. I hope that you enjoy it and will be excited enough to purchase the project when it comes out on September 20. Lab 2013 is an "homage to Denton, Texas" a place that we like to call "Jazz Town, U.S.A." Featured on this track are Aaron Hedenstrom and Nick Salvucci on tenors, and Scott Neary on guitar.

Denton Standard Time

A new track from the yet-to-be-released "Lab 2011" Written by Steve Wiest, "The Last Theme Song" is inspired by the great era of TV theme songs circa 1960-1980. Plus, you will hear some grandiose modern cinematic textures towards the end (double pedal Dbs from Sean Casey and Matt Jefferson!). A blistering guitar solo from Scott Kruser and some typically amazing upper register work from Dan Foster as well. The Last Theme Song

Here's another track from the soon-to-be-released "Lab 2011" Composed by the very gifted UNT student composer Kevin Swaim, this piece was written as a feature for the amazing Adam Hutcheson. After a beautiful Copland/Schneider-esque introduction by Colin Campbell, "Nail in the Coffin" kicks off and does not let up until the last note. As far as the title...you will have to ask Kevin about that! :)

Nail in the Coffin

Written by the great Slide Hampton for Maynard Ferguson's "Birdland Dream Band", this was the first recording of this great piece since those days in the early 1960s. Featured soloists include Chris Mike on baritone, Sam Reid on alto, Pete Clagett and Mike Shields on trumpet and Sean Jones on drums. Recorded by the One O'Clock Lab Band on their Lab 2010 CD.
