Nina Mix 006 comes from the ascendant New Jersey DJ and producer @equissss. As 1/3rd of @ossx, alongside his close friends @dj1elise and @lektorscopes, EQUISS and his cohort are leading a wave that’s defining a new East Coast club sound. 

EQUISS’ Nina Mix provides a sun-kissed take on that sound, seamlessly blending regional US club tracks with euphoric UK Garage and colorful shuffling techno. Alongside a heaping dose of tracks and bootlegs from the OSSX camp, EQUISS showcases a number of tracks from exciting contemporaries like Introspekt, Regal86, MoMa Ready, DJ Swisha, and more. 

He told Nina: “This mix includes club tracks centered around the joy of summer and dedicated to the 3 months of nice weather the tri-state gets.”

Príncipe OG @djnk brings the ghetto sound of Lisbon on a contribution to the podcast series.

A key proponent of Lisbon's kuduro sound, first exposure came via a 2006 compilation that has since achieved cult status. Introducing a spectrum of hyper-local sounds, ‘DJs Do Guetto’ took a unique slant on rhythms of the African diaspora, specifically those native to Angola. In turn, it laid foundations for what would become one of the most consistently intriguing, boundary-pushing labels about.

Where a 2016 Lit City Trax debut embraced hybridity in a straight-for-the-jugular assault of batida, kuduro and tarraxinha, N.K. has also shared Príncipe engineering duties with the legendary Tó Pinheiro da Silva. And now, after all this time, he’s back on the label with some original music. 

Gracing the long awaited second volume to that aforementioned compilation with no fewer than three new tracks, this mix also deploys mutant club styles to devastating effect. Teriyaki Boyz-sampling kuduro to an N.K. remix of some classic Atlanta trap, it goes very hard.

“With this mix I wanted to show the contrast between the recent N.K. versus the old. 

It’s a journey from the present to the past, culminating in Marfox's latest track in collaboration with Tristany and Pongo titled De.Gra.De (its appearance at Eurovision was another super important step in our style of music that we don't stop believing in).

We're celebrating the legendary imprint Night Slugs' 15th anniversary on our mix series! Founded by Alex Sushon (Bok Bok) and James Connolly (L-Vis 1990), Night Slugs was initially launched as a club night series after Alex and James met on Myspace in 2008, expanding into a record label in 2010. From then, Night Slugs quickly became one of the distinctive dance music labels of the 2010s as they pushed a hybrid of grime, house, electro, R&B, hip hop and dubstep. With a lasting influence across the globe to this day, the label released career defining releases from the likes of Jam City, Girl Unit, Mosca, Jacques Greene, Lil Silva and more. To celebrate their 15th anniversary, Night Slugs have pulled together the 'Classic Remixed' compilation which fuses the label's past, present and future with artists taking on remixes of the label's classics. These remixers include Night Slugs family Ikonika, Helix, CalvoMusic & OSSX, as well as many of the labels peers and next-gen favourites including Grandmixxer, Bored Lord, MoMa Ready, Hagan, Karen Nyame KG, River Moon, DJ Polo & NKC, DJ Lag, scotti dee and more.

The third mix in the takeover is from London-based artist Ikonika who's a long-term collaborator of Night Slugs, first appearing on the label in 2010 with a remix for Egyptrixx's 'The Only Way Up' EP. It wasn't until earlier this year that Ikonika made her full release debut on Night Slugs with the 6-tracker 'Supernova' in collaboration with vocalist 45DiBoss and is also featured on the recent 'Night Slugs Classix Remixed' compilation with a remix of Hysteric's 'Empty'. Alongside this, Ikonika is one of Hyperdub's staple artists, releasing on the label for over 10 years including three well-esteemed albums. Whilst having a distinctive style Ikonika's productions are never tied to one genre - ever-evolving, constantly exciting. Late last year, Ikonika released the 'Bubble Up' EP which was a new direction for the innovative producer, showcasing a more confident and poppy style with her low key vocals featured on three of the tracks. Debuting the Bubble Up live show at Panorama Bar, Ikonika has since performed live at Dekmantel Festival, ICA and Sónar. Her upcoming dates include a performance at the Southbank Centre as part of Nicholas Daley's Concrete Lates takeover and continuing the Night Slugs celebration at Parallel in Amsterdam. 

Speaking about the contribution to the Night Slugs' mix takeover, Ikonika says, "‪the selection for this mix dynamically goes in a bit deeper, darker, and noisy, especially towards the end. It has vulnerable tendencies. It’s one (I hope) you can zone out too.‬"

The latest podcast sees Petrola 80 bosses @lyravalenza take a restrained approach while placing specific focus on their local Copenhagen scene.

A collaboration between longstanding friends Jens Konrad and Hjalte Lehman, the LV blueprint transcends genre. It’s day-glo rave ordnance that draws from eurodance, techno and the so-called hardcore continuum – nostalgic and undeniably fwd-facing at once.

Distilling the euphoria of their live sets into 8 distinct tracks, debut full-length ‘Low Gear No Pressure’ spanned everything from blissed ambience to precision-tooled breakbeats and trance-tinged jungle. Dipping into downtempo territory for the first time, it also represented a broadening of their already eclectic palette, and this mix certainly continues in that vein.
 
“Our recent DJ appearances and mixes have been hazy peak-hour sets, so here, we wanted to dive a little deeper and explore slower BPMs and tracks we rarely get the chance to play out, combined with tunes we usually play in the beginning of our sets. It’s also the first time we chose to work with a strict gender balance between the featured artists and producers. And as usual we focused on the booming Copenhagen scene, this time including local artists such as Gavnlig, Muskila, Capitana, DJ Paydar and Mbizo.” – Lyra Valenza

Co-founding the now-defunct Bala Club to launching Precious Metals, the NTS mainstay is one of London’s foremost underground operators: a prolific producer, DJ and label owner that counts the likes of Kamixlo, Yayoyanoh and Organ Tapes among his closest peers and collaborators. 

Committed to platforming emerging artists, no stone is left unturned in his label’s pursuit of dysfunction and emotive-driven, genre-bending cross-pollination. It’s music that draws from the chaos of the urban complex; intense, visceral, sometimes nocturnal, and, on occasion, violent in the extreme.

And where his own productions straddle the line between severe electronics, drill abstraction and Latinx styles, this mix treads a similar path.

NYC scene figurehead and podcast contributor Ex Wiish keeps things horizontal with a 45-minute exercise in total immersion. 

We're gassed to have the 29 Speedway founder on board for this one. Something of a luminary in the Big Apple scene, the sound artist and composer has grown increasingly experimental with age, culminating in  a widescreen debut for Anthony Naples' Incienso label.

Where that album oscillated between windswept arrangements, lacerating IDM and downbeat styles, his mix taps into the same vein of transcendent, meditative experimentalism.
