Ups And Downs [Furthur Electronix]

The label’s inaugural release unites contributions of 4 artists, with a common ground of techy, playfully modern-sounding tracks with a serious edge and a decent amount of bleeps.  The A-Side opens with a springy, chirpy, minimal tech groover by Berlin-based Rudolf C. It has a light, yet discernible shuffle that drives the track towards a smooth and sunny vibe. Tristan Arp from Mexico is draggin us into water with his captivating aquatic breakbeat groover. At times meditative, at times hectic, it keeps the mind busy with bubbles and waves.
On the flipside, things move forward at a higher pace. 
De Lichting co-founder and Amsterdam-based queniv is teleporting us into a darker environment with a minimal-ish, electro-ish tech nightmare with a merciless groove and little relief.
O-Wells, Die Orakel regular, rounds off the EP with an euphoric, light and choppy, garage-ish track with a restrained, suspenseful energy that only gets unleashed towards the end.

none/such’s next charity compilation is an effort to raise money for Refugees4Refugees, an independent community network of refugee activists who fight for the protection of their human rights, equality, freedom, and dignity. Standing united against social exclusion in order to contest cultures of isolation, racism, and discrimination, R4R organizes grassroots resistance and campaigns against the oppression of refugee communities in Germany and Europe enabling freedom of movement for the most marginalized. The compilation is free, but all proceeds will go directly to the Refugees4Refugees network.

'Aggelos first approached Lurid Music with the idea for this project a few months ago. We agreed on one condition, that all proceeds be donated to refugee causes, like we did with his Black Sea EP which supported the Syrian refugee crisis. When Russia invaded Ukraine, we decided our focus had to be helping the Ukrainian refugees who were forced to leave their homes in search of safe havens abroad.

We discussed this with most contributors to the project and the consensus was that donations should strictly go to humanitarian groups and not any armament funds. There were also some thoughts about helping conflict-affected peoples in other parts of the world but we decided it was too much to tackle for a relatively small project like this one.

Therefore, donations stemming from the sales of this release will be distributed to the following humanitarian groups currently active in Ukraine or neighboring countries welcoming refugees:

Black Sea (Sepehr Remix)

The machine had been sat dormant for a very long time. Some had believed it might never be reactivated out of fear of danger or harm. Scientists had in the meantime, gathered results and studied everything it had given them in the years before. They too had never imagined that it might ever be brought back to life.

The laboratory was crowded and busy, the busiest it had been for months. It's funny how an existential threat had the power and capacity to draw people toward that of which they were afraid. That was human nature perhaps.

Soon Engendrx would be relaunched and the discoveries it might lead to were beyond anyone's comprehension. Outside protesters gathered and shouted as they anticipated it might lead them straight to hell...

Ambien Baby is the duo of Nap & D.Tiff - close friends who have used the project so far to showcase their off piste approach to electronic music. This time they venture into the realms of acid and nu trance - slowing things down a bit with a drugged up EP which wobbles and wanders between sounds and textures. Highly recommended as always - imagine a dark red room and this played out loud.

Berlin’s Open Music Lab introduces Cascade, a compilation featuring some of the collective’s valued artists, created in partnership with Native Instruments

Open Music Lab recently collaborated with Native Instruments for the first time, to offer selected participants a 5-month Advanced Music Production and Artistic Development program. Focused on connecting some of Berlin’s most exciting up-and-coming producers with industry professionals from Native Instruments, the course supported artists who were already making music, but who needed guidance with their productions, career development, and performance skills in order to take their music to the next level and eventually share it with the world.

The result of this course is a deeply personal compilation, channelling a range of of emotions and touching upon intimate feelings, such as depression (“Limbo”), pain and heartbreak (“Alligator,” “flames 2 dust,” “some days life is just hard”), hope in the face of adversity (“HOPE”), or the need to be authentic and putting yourself first (“For Me”). We also find an ode to queer rave culture (“Time Melts Away”), a spontaneous jam session (“skrelly boom”), and a groovy and hypnotic techno track (“NADA-R”) dedicated to early mornings after a rave or before work.

As is usual on OML’s releases, Cascade draws from a very wide range of electronic genres, produced by both longtime community members, some of which have already released on the label, as well as newcomers to the community. Cascade comes a few months after the release of Diffraction, produced after an 8-month Intermediate Production and Artistic Development course, and including first-released tracks from some of OML’s community members.
