The Operatives are a multi-talented collective of producers, DJ’s, radio show hosts, international talent and undeniably Australia’s foremost selectors, as well as hosts and curators to the clandestine Espionage gigs. As part of celebrating the Ten Years Strong anniversary this year, they are proud to present a series of ten different mixes from ten diverse artists from The Operatives roster.

Introducing Rhythms & Bleeps from elusive agent SEAN DEANS. Far from being a new comer to the scene, Deans has been shaking sound systems since the mid-nineties and his formative years’ in Wellington’s infamous Bass Frontiers parties. This boundary-pushing mix, which he says takes him back to his ‘junglist, bass music roots’ invokes the revival of the movement with the likes of tear-out new tracks from OM UNIT and ROMARE expertly mixed with intangibly unreleased drum n’ bass from PHOTEK’s ‘One Nation’ to jungle anthem ‘Massive’ by CAPONE. With surprising, submerged melodies, digital leanings and a hefty amount of bass, Rhythms & Bleeps is the sounds of an energetic futurist as well as a practiced selector.

As part of celebrating the Ten Years Strong anniversary this year, they are proud to present a series of ten different mixes from ten diverse artists from The Operatives roster. 

Captured ‘Live at Golden Plains’ JPS’ sprawling set with visuals provided by Strangeloop needs to be both seen and heard to be believed. After a decade in the game as the founder and chief of The Operatives, it’s clear Jerry Poon’s passion for music hasn’t wavered since his formative years as drum n’ bass DJ. His live set – deftly delivered at the 1am slot at the festival – captures the ethos of the collective as much as it left the audience enthralled and gyrating. Genre-bending, mixing seminal tracks with the unreleased new, championing the local with international, as a DJ and director, Poon is an advocate for the excellent and eclectic. Spanning from NZ producer BENNY TONES to Honolulu’s MR. CARMACK to his own forthcoming co-productions’ with HOOVES, with the scattering of DILLA and DNB classics, ‘Live at Golden Plains’ devastated the dance floor with the discerning taste of one of Melbourne’s most renowned selectors.

Lady Banton brings the sound of summer a little closer. She mixes a huge, coasting mix over 83 minutes, taking a wide view of modern music and tempo, all the while keeping the bass on blast.

JPSxHooves release the The Operatives debut Single, that comes in a limited release 7” vinyl 100% made in Melbourne.

The long-awaited release from the Australian collaborators has been tried and tested across late-night dance floors and early morning sound systems around the globe. Spun by world-renown DJs and producers including Sam Binga, Om Unit, Kiat and collected like some rare, mysterious sample by long-time fans of The Operatives-founder Jerry Poon, known as JPS, and producer and furious drummer HOOVES aka Johnny Clayton.

A testament to both producers' years spent as dance floor devastating DJs, Skitnik draws from it's ethnic Macedonian soundtrack as a lead to new beginnings, a war cry to the rise of the new label. The AA side which has been well received by the dnb, grime, footwork and UK bass communities carries on it’s tribal riddems, a def dance floor killer.

'Frameworks'

"I've been thinking a lot lately about the journey myself and some peers have been on, travelling around the Earth as DJ's and what I feel we have contributed in some small way to the world of beats/bass/dnb etc.. It's been such an amazing ride so far, but speaking for myself, I think somehow some years ago I got a little lost amongst the 'career' aspect, and in a way let the external forces that come with a relative degree of success in a sense dictate some of my relationship with myself as an artist. Over the past year or  so, i've been enjoying getting back to basics, and re-focusing on the real essence of what it is I set out to do in music, having for-filled my 'teenage dreams' of working within the dnb community, I have in a sense been enjoying to returning to being a fan 1st, and with my own creativity, exploring new avenues, which will become more evident in 2019 via my own releases but also the output of Cosmic Bridge (thinking as it's curator). 

This mix is something of a diagram of the landscape of current music that is important to me both as a DJ and artist, but also a heads up to anyone looking for inspiration, I feel there are nuggets of inspiration in here for potential futures that might be autonomous from any given scene. It is also a showcase of what is to come in 2019 from both myself and the label, in a way a set of 'frameworks' for inspiring and forward thinking producers." - Om Unit

Chimpo is the UKs music legacy personified. His legendary DJ sets take in all the genres created within the UK and all of the influences that inform them. Hailing from Manchester, he comes from a long line of musical innovators and you can hear this in his output.
