A quick glance at the tracklist of the latest Theory Therapy mix is enough to pique the interest of any music fan. Seeing Cocteau Twins, Burial, Vegyn, Pub, Jens Lekman and a recording from a Wim Wender’s film alongside one another, you might not be entirely sure what to expect, but if you’re familiar with the Texas-based musician more eaze, you basically know that it’s going to be really great and completely unique.

Mari Maurice is one of those rare artists who manages to pull things off that just shouldn’t work on paper. Whether that means releasing autotuned emo ambient or mixing Jens Lekman with IDM icons Pub, Mari makes everything she does sound so good you can’t believe nobody has thought to do it already. That ceaseless creativity and clear passion for music seems to be the driving force behind everything she does, from her label with Claire Rousay and solo releases to her forthcoming collaborative project with New York artist Mister Lies. It's also probably what makes her mix one of the most engrossing and enjoyable I’ve heard in ages.

AM: How you doing mate? What have ya been up to recently? 

Helloo life has been pretty mad lately, I've just loved to London and am working full time alongside a masters degree


AM: Tell us a little about the mix, how and where did you record it? 

This is a collection of eyes down ambient and downtempo hehe few unreleased bits from me and friends within and I wanted to let the tracks breathe a bit, pieced together in transit on my laptop whilst my life was in boxes 


AM: We’re big fans of your recent release with BP, what was the process behind it?

 Thank you! it's a collection of tracks made towards the end of my time in Bristol and the release came about pretty organically through talking with DJ Autumn. Most tracks were done on the fly so it was more a case of letting the sounds do the worldbuilding rather than going in with a concept but I'm v happy with them all packaged together in the endಠ‿ಠ


AM: What have you been digging & listening to recently?

3XL crew, Murmurs crew, all the weirdo ambient crowd, also lots of minimal recently wth?


AM: What’s next for ya?

Just got masters for my next record back, new ANE in the pipeline, getting stuck in with London and also trying to grow a moustache ☆ﾟ.*･｡ﾟ

Roi Omer, Shay & Gal Hazout - The Soul

A bit of sampled Malian style guitar blended with field sounds, then transitions into something completely different, because I have a short attention span. I rushed the mix here, hence ‘demo’. Somehow it’s simultaneously too quiet and too bassy in places. It’s nearly there, though. I might add a section before the start and make it longer but that could be a step too far. Starts getting a bit serious, this one, so I had to add a sample at the end just to pull my head out of my arse. #world #mali #herbaliser #ninjatune #electronic #strings #space
