After 5 years, 100 Artists, and over $3.7 million spent to date in artist development funding in British Columbia, 102.7 The PEAK’s award-winning program The PEAK Performance Project is Crossing the Rockies and planting a second set of roots in Alberta. Thanks to the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, the Alberta PEAK Performance Project will inject $4.9 million into the Alberta music industry in addition to the $5.2 million commitment already made to British Columbia. With the launch of Alberta’s PEAK Performance Program, the total of grand prize awards between the two provinces is doubling to close to $500,000 per year. 

The programs in both provinces run parallel but as separate contests. 12 artists are chosen from BC, and 12 from Alberta. All artists start with $5000 in development funding. Then together they descend on RockRidge Canyon in Princeton, BC for an intense seven-day boot camp. From there, each artist performs a critiqued showcase (in their home province) and carries out a number of career enhancing challenges and online voting that accumulate points for the adjudication committee. Each program chooses their top 3 artists, who perform at a Finale concert in Vancouver or Calgary, where they find out how they placed and who takes home the grand prize!

One of the key starting points for any recording artist is writing a great song. Songwriting is a skill that is constantly being developed. This year, we teamed up the artists from BC and Alberta with the challenge of writing a song to record at boot camp! Using the theme "Come Together", the artists worked with our amazing producers Jeff Dawson, Garth Richardson, Russell Broom, Shawn Cole, Warne Livesey, and Winston Hauschild to come up with 12 original songs. All 12 songs were recorded in 4 pop-up studios built in a day at RockRidge Canyon. This could not be possible without the help of Nimbus School of Recording Arts (nimbusrecording.com) and their amazing crew.

The $5.29 million PEAK Performance Project is designed to educate, promote, develop and hopefully launch the careers of some of British Columbia’s top emerging artists. It also hopes to foster the province’s music industry and create a sense of community amongst music professionals. In addition to the rigorous six month artist development program and the $315,000.00 in artist development funding, The Pattison Group of Companies will also contribute an annual media credit of $1,000,000.00 in support of the PEAK Performance Project by marketing, promoting and advertising the PEAK Performance Project and the participating artists making it the largest individual radio station project in Canada.
