This song is the first The Eclectic Collective has done with Mark, and we all had a great time making it with him. This song started with Mark, who is a bass player's bass player, giving his raw bass track to Ken, who brought it to the group. Ken laid down his exciting drums to match Mark's bass line before anything else happened, though. Once we had a rhythm section, JJ laid down his dancing electric piano. Once that was in place, Josh laid down the organ. Then it was time for the guitars, played electrifyingly by both Tez and Stephen. Tez plays throughout most of the song, and Stephen added his part towards the end. Stephen also mixed this for us expertly, as always. If you have a beverage in your hands, you might want to set it down. We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.

Someone very close to me has been working very hard to become a calmer person.  This has meant years of work : making peace with his late father, observing his emotional reactions, transcending them and letting go.

Recently he told me of a vivid dream about his father and I said that I felt that was an indication of the continuation of his journey, a journey to "calmer waters".  It inspired this piece of music.

You know who you are.  This piece is for you.  I hope it will add to your own feelings of peace and contentment and to those of all who listen to it. x

I decided to leave this piece as purely piano.  No other sounds, just the simplicity of the music shining through.  Calm waters have no ripples.

Now some important words on mixing and mastering. I have been lucky enough to meet someone recently with a lot more experience than I have with mixing and mastering. A professional with many year's experience, Chris Adams has kindly begun to mentor me in this area and has quickly become a good friend who is not afraid to give me creative direction, keep me grounded and disciplined and give me a lot of laughter along the way.  Chris has shown great patience as I try to improve the technical side of my music production skills.  He quickly discovered that I had a sub optimal recording set up and he has given me valuable advice and direction to improve my source recordings.  I am still learning and experimenting with this, doing my best to follow instructions because Chris and I live on opposite sides of the world.  He has mastered this piece for me and has offered to mentor me further so that I can improve my technical abilities with music software and production.  Exciting times!

A new piano sound is here to be explored: the Vertical Concert Grand Klavins M450i. An Everest of sound, a friend commented - she may be right... :-)

Our Una Corda piano has been sampled and is available as a VSTi at Native Instruments - they did a great job, it's fascinating! Also take a look at The Giant from NI, the VSTi of our Model 370 vertical concert grand piano...

Love to express myself on the keyboard now and then, only improvising... sometimes it works out, sometimes not - like real life... :-) Actually I'm a piano builder, not a pianist... ;-)

I'm recording mostly using the Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S88 keyboard, Reaper for DAW, and various Native Instruments sound libraries, sometimes live on the Una Corda.

Wish I had more time to explore all the fine musicians here - it's fascinating, always something new and inspirational to find, within the infinite world of music..!

Please be patient with me in case I'm not replying on your comments short term - I'm extremely busy building pianos... I definitely appreciate your remarks, ideas, suggestions, and will get back to you as I can afford..!
