It was right around 3 and a half years ago, at a small event in Detroit called LAZER TAG, that I met intergalactic funk wizard Freddy Todd﻿. Since then, I have come to call Fred one of my closest friends in this whole music thing. His song, "Winter Defroster" has held a special place in my heart throughout our friendship, as I feel that it truly represents all that is good in the funk-glitch realm while also symbolizing our brotherhood...so when Fred asked me to remix one of his tracks, it was a no brainer which one I chose.

Unfortunately this remix could not be featured on Fred's remix album due to a name conflict and the label refusing to release it as a result of that conflict, so I have decided to post it up for everyone to enjoy. Without further ado, I present to you my remix of one of my favorite songs of all time.

Freddy Todd - Winter Defroster (Muzzy Bearr ReFrost)

“Control” is a relentless, driving techno track at 150 BPM that unleashes pure energy from the very first second. Built on a massive, bass-heavy foundation, it layer by layer creates an intense tension that sends the dancefloor into complete ecstasy. Following the release of his highly acclaimed debut album, On Acid, earlier this year, Berlin artist, Recondite, steps in to provide two deep and dark remixes of Scuba’s ‘The Hope’ for the next Hotflush single. 

The label has long been championing Recondite’s work. The track ‘Backbone’ was a notable highlight of Scuba’s revered DJ Kicks mix before the latter applied his own hand on a full-throttle remix of ‘Jaded’, to close out On Acid. 

Here, Recondite defines both remixes in the form of two journeys taken at opposing times of the day: a late-night drive and an early-morning walk. In both, the energy and aggression of Scuba’s original is drawn increasingly into a more desolate landscape as glacial synth lines bleed over one another into depths lurking far below the planes of convention.
