This year's Black Rock Hoe Down almost didn't happen for me. Thankfully due to moving up the Hoe Down to Wednesday this year I was able to play at what could be my favorite Hoe Down I've been to as well as hauling my ass off the playa on no sleep Thursday to trek back home to San Francisco and then travel all day Friday to northern Michigan. 

It was all worth it. Along with the usual array of generator, sound, fm transmitter issues. Nobody panicked but there are times when you look at people ready to let loose and only the monitors and 2 of the array of speakers are working (and none of the subwoofers) where you wonder if its going to come together. The generators, speakers and fm transmitter all commenced working around the same time and all of a sudden the Black Rock Hoe Down was in full effect. 

For me riding up and seeing the Mog in deep playa under the desert moon has always meant breaks. Big, badass, booty shaking breaks. It's a bit of a change from what I usually play these days. Hope you enjoy the nod to the past with current tracks.

LYRICS: A CALL TO CONQUER LONELINESS  

The lyrics of “Loneliness” are a rallying cry against isolation. They reframe solitude as “the absence of someone else,” while describing emptiness simply as space filled with potential for warmth and connection. 

Each verse is a call to action—urging listeners to take a step, lend a hand, and unite to overcome isolation. 

The journey depicted in the lyrics moves from shadows into light, suggesting that collective action and shared kindness can transform our realm of darkness into one of hope. 

The powerful outro further reinforces this message by inviting each listener to add their voice to a communal chorus of hope, emphasizing that when individuals engage, share, and belong, loneliness can be conquered.
