"The Last American” is a rant against modern-day tyranny. This anthemic track imagines a dystopian society whose inhabitants sit around campfires regaling children with stories about what life was like before the downfall of American civilization. Lest there be any uncertainly as to what has caused this downfall, lead singer Alex Maws rattles through images of life in Trump’s America – a gaslighting narcissist of a president, a legion of hypocritical Chinese-made MAGA hat-wearing devotees, and a woman beleaguered by daily bouts of headline-induced anxiety. Nonetheless, the track remains defiantly catchy. “The last thing that the resistance movement needs right now is depressing music,” says Maws. “I hope this song will be heard blasting from campaign headquarters and field offices throughout America, helping inspire our comrades to persist in their fight.”
