This is a spoken word piece from frontwoman Hannah Smillie’s poetry book, spoken on top of a 7 minute, low fi, blues inspired psychedelic track that teasingly builds to a classic Psychotic Reaction bold and powerful explosion that leaves your neck hairs on edge and your ears wanting some more.

A Minor Spoken Word

The Psychotic Reactions are a 60s inspired, fuzzy vintage trio hailing from the West Coast of Australia. The Walyalup based group are renowned for their vintage psych sounds and flawless ability to draw together sounds of blues, rock ‘n’ roll and jazz alongside intricate lyricism and meaningful storytelling. Their latest release, ‘Take It Easy’ takes listeners on an exhilarating journey, paying homage to their retro roots while infusing a fresh perspective.

Delving into the depths of personal experiences, The Psychotic Reactions explore the aftermath of overcoming abusive relationships. ‘Take It Easy’ serves as a cathartic anthem, portraying the empowering realization that sometimes it's easier to place blame on oneself rather than unravel the complexities of narcissism.

This captivating track seamlessly transitions from an upbeat and catchy melody to a compelling instrumental interlude, where heavy minor breakdowns captivate the listener's emotions while delivering a mind-whirling sonic experience that the band is best known for.

Lead singer Hannah Smillie took charge of the song's production, recording it in the comfort of her own home. Departing from their usual tape recording process, they explored new horizons by stacking layers of guitars and harmonies, resulting in a rich and immersive sound.
‘Take It Easy’ features a standout moment in the form of Hannah's mesmerizing guitar solo, symbolizing the isolating freedom that accompany breaking free from the chains of abuse.

While this release embraces a more lo-fi sound, it radiates a vibrant and poppy atmosphere, embodying the metaphor that one can find their true selves without relying on anyone else.

As The Psychotic Reactions continue to captivate audiences with their signature 60s vintage sound, which effortlessly blends elements of psych, power pop, and blues, they have exciting plans ahead. Following their live performance, they'll be heading back into the studio—a much- anticipated return after navigating the challenges of numerous “breakdowns & lockdowns”.

Take It Easy

Reviving a 1960 hit by Ronnie Love, this psychobilly rendition channels vintage horror themes, infusing the track with an eerie yet lively ambiance. Frontwoman Hannah Smillie spearheads the production, playing all instruments and engineering the recording at home. Clocking in at a tantalizing 1:20, it's their debut cover, promising a quick, infectious earworm.

Accompanying the release is a captivating music video, drawing from the spooky charm of the 1929 Disney horror animation "The Haunted House." Hannah's vocals, paired with the haunting echoes of a '60s Hammond organ, conjure nostalgia while igniting a fresh, electrifying sound.

Boorloo trio 'The Psychotic Reactions' present their third release of 2024 with ‘Clearing The Air’. 

The band ventures into a more shoe-gaze cross slow-core soundscape while staying close to their psychedelic layered guitar side that they are renowned for. 

This track was recorded at home, with lead singer and song writer Hannah Smillie performing, recording and mixing everything to capture the bands iconic vintage feel. 

‘Clearing The Air’ is the penultimate release off The Psychotic Reactions sophomore album - due for release in February 2025.

The Psychotic Reactions are a 60s inspired garage trio hailing from the West Coast of Australia. The scruffy haired, Boorloo based group have been kicking around since 2016 and are renowned for their fuzzy vintage psych sounds and flawless ability to draw together sounds of nostalgic rhythm & blues, rock ‘n’ roll and jazz alongside intricate lyricism and meaningful storytelling. 
With a fiercely loyal fanbase and unique cross-genre sound, The Psychotic Reactions have very quickly become a well loved and highly praised band amongst all musical communities across WA.	

The band has supported musical legends Jebediah, The Murlocs, The Saints, The Stems, Davey Lane, Abbe May and Hideous Sun Demon, along with festival slots at Out Of The Woods, Nannup Music Festival, RTRFM’s In The Pines and West Australian Music Festival, and have toured both regionally and to the east coast.

The Psychotic Reactions have dropped numerous EP’s and their debut full length album in 2020 received a nomination for WAM’s Song of the Year for their popular release ‘Phone’. 
With overflowing support from fans, industry and fellow musicians, The Psychotic Reactions continue to create and release garage-psych rock bangers with 2025 looking at multiple single releases and the drop of their second album.
