Hailing from the West Coast, DAWS is a true firestarter and crucial fixture in the Australian party and club scene.

Her experience behind the decks has seen her play as part of local lineups for the major festivals as well all the hottest underground dance floors across Melbourne. Her recent guest mixes include Rinse FM, FBI Radio, and Area 3000.

A DAWS set weaves between genres, full of high energy tracks, queer anthems, atypical drum patterns and nostalgic 90’s dance floor fillers.

The Give Some EP is a collaboration between veteran Scottish producer @panooc_music (they/them) and California-born, NYC-based @dd_curry (he/him), two solo artists who originally met in the Brooklyn underground scene. Early on during the lockdowns, the friends embarked on this project as a way to find creative release, stay in touch, and maintain a connection through the dance music they love. They arrived upon a bass-driven, nostalgic house sound that could transport them back to the club but also help them process the melancholy of isolation. What has resulted are three original tracks that are simultaneously bouncy yet introspective, along with a funky remix by emerging NYC artist Devoye. The EP has already earned early support from rising star Logic1000 in her Mixmag Cover Mix and UK scene veteran Ben Gomori on his Turned On podcast. 

Funky yet mysterious, lead track "Going Up" features atmospheric keys and otherworldly vocals over a persistent Chicago-inspired bassline that holds down the vibe. This deep mover provides a message of optimism during tough times and an opportunity for catharsis on the dancefloor.

Next, “Give Some” provides an insistent, rolling groove that combines with punchy synth stabs and a curious ambience for powerful dancefloor possibilities. Panooc’s jazz training shines through in the breakdown’s complex chord progressions that nonetheless stay focused squarely on the club.

Pulsating bass squelches and ferocious micro samples propel the leftfield banger "Wyckoff", named after a street in the Bushwick area where Panooc and Curry used to be neighbors. While the four-to-the-floor beat holds down the main rhythm, the track also features moments of broken beats that take the hook in a surprising direction.

Rounding out the EP is the club-ready remix of “Going Up” by rising artist Devoye. A beloved DJ in the Brooklyn scene, the Boiler Room alum lends his production talents and spoken word vocals to a classic house heater in the tradition of Mike Dunn. His party-igniting take will fit in nicely into any proper house set.

The Give Some EP started off as a project between physically distant friends with hopes of better days ahead. This EP will be followed by the pair’s respective solo releases later this year, and the artists look forward to teaming up again in the very near future.

Eora-based DJ, producer and Start Local Records label-head, Tom Bruce is not one to sit still. Today, he steps up to deliver Lost Sundays Session #022 🏄🏼‍♂️

A pillar of the scene and a regular face at Lost Sundays, Tom Bruce has proved himself and more since his debut EP 'Cloudy Days Often Have The Best Sunsets' released on Eora's @galleryrecordings last year. Often spotted passing the headphones to partner in crime Cleo, this time around he's brewed up a Tom Bruce special - an hour of grooves. In his own words:

"I don't think I've made a mix that didn't include a Fantastic Man gem. The way he blends really hard-hitting bass with softer, also italo-type sounds just creates such interesting tracks that can be played in almost any setting. I caught him playing the Lovejoy party a few months back and it just further cemented my love for everything he does.

I've been listening to quite a lot of Eden Burns lately and just love his approach to making music. He just releases so much stuff and he clearly doesn't take himself too seriously, which I think is really important when making music. He just makes all sorts of crazy, groovy stuff and pushes it out. I've got in the habit of whenever he releases another Big Beat Manifesto, I go back through his discography and almost always find a new song I haven't heard.

Keep an ear out for Kermond, a local Sydney artist that I've recently been playing a lot. He sent over some demos to the label I run, @startlocalrecords, and I just couldn't stop playing them. The same week just I just happen to run into him at a gig and we just got chatting, lovely guy and is just making such cool music. His track Ur Love is a serious earworm!

'Holding On' by Lone Cat is a track I am dying to play out sometime soon. I am an absolute sucker for classic house sounds, anything with some piano and a few gospel vocals I'm weak at the knees haha. I love to sprinkle really uplifting vocal tracks through all my sets cause I just love to share those soulful moments with crowds. People should normalise clenching their fists and singing along in the club.
