From Punk to Folk, From Funk to Serenity: A “Kısmet” Manifesto
“Kısmet is a debut album—an unruly narrative circling not around identities but the shared states of being human.
It is made up of nine songs in Turkish lyric form, structurally fractured, at times emotionally heavy, or bursting with energy.
All the sounds I’ve heard, the faces I’ve seen, the things that pierced through me—accumulated and collided with what I encountered along the way, eventually becoming this album.
Wrong timings, unfinished thoughts, broken sentences, falling too much, overthinking.
And all the other malfunctions of fate: our Kısmet.
Now entrusted to you.”

A Dark Yet Enchanting Journey
The album begins with its title track, “Kısmet”, setting the tone for a haunting sonic voyage. Opening with deep, cavernous atmospheres, the track builds restless energy that erupts into punk-fueled urgency—eventually giving way to introspection and quiet surrender. It’s a musical metaphor for letting go and trusting fate.
The second track, “Sarıkız”, shifts the energy with its dynamic rhythm. Evoking the spirit of Ankara and infused with cues from TikTok culture, it reflects modern social behavior while drawing from folk traditions. Koçak reclaims and reshapes these roots with a contemporary lens, crafting what he calls an “anonymous folk song.”
“Bavul” explores emotional depths with a chilling tone, driven by the resonance of a hanging drum. Its somber mood echoes the album’s recurring theme of an inner and outer journey.
“Sürün” continues the descent into sonic mysticism, with throat-sung harmonies pulling the listener deeper into Koçak’s enigmatic world.

Longing, Desire, and Closure
Track five, “Ben Hiçbir Gün”, unfolds as a poignant narrative of longing. “Periler”, originally released as a single, pulses with desire-laden rhythms. Both songs were rearranged for the album and highlight Koçak’s evolving style.
All lyrics, compositions, and arrangements are crafted solely by Koçak, lending the album a cohesive voice despite its experimental detours.
“Sardunya” surfaces like an endless lament, steeped in yearning and unresolved emotion. “Kâkül”, a live performance favorite, brings a funk-infused interpretation of the modern folk idiom.
The album concludes with “Yavşaklar”,  its most confrontational and politically charged track. It captures the friction between personal identity and societal pressures—a final, unflinching cry at the close of this sonic manifesto.
An Uncompromising New Voice
Kısmet introduces a daring and original voice to Turkey’s alternative music scene. Merging Anatolian roots with psychedelic rock, progressive textures, and modern production, Suat Armağan Koçak’s debut is a rich, genre-bending experience waiting to be discovered by both local and global audiences.
