BLACK SUN shows THE RAYWELLS in all their glory. Launching with a haunting piano that eases into an orchestral arrangement – during which it wouldn’t be inconceivable to imagine a festival field illuminated at dusk with thousands of lighters aloft – the song breaks midway, almost as if Led Zeppelin themselves had walked in the room, and becomes a furious, life-affirming beast with guitars as sharp as razor wire.

A no nonsense, crowd-pleasing ‘get yer rocks off’ kinda band from Kingston upon Hull.

Credited for inspiring a generation of local musicians to pick up an instrument and form a band, The Raywells established a loyal following in their home city first time around, gaining national exposure and performing sell out gigs around the UK with regular appearances on BBC radio and TV, ITV and Sky.

After a successful tour of California, the four founding members took the decision to put the band on hold to explore the world and do their own thing.

With his unique vocal range and an undoubted talent for being the star of the show, front man Lee Pedge has remained a familiar figure on the local music scene, completing a number of solo projects and a Music Performance degree. 

After enlisting fellow Hullites Pat Gradwell (Guitars), Mikey Scott (Drums), Will Blake (Bass) and Tom Spowart (keys), The Raywells were re-born.

All five members of the band are accomplished musicians having studied at music college - the band’s forthcoming EP has been produced by drummer Mikey Scott who is a qualified sound engineer and music producer at Fruit Trade Music in Hull.

Returning to the live circuit in 2016 with a successful acoustic tour supporting US singer songwriter Alan Merrill under their belt, the band played alongside The Pigeon Detectives, Reverend and The Makers and The Hoosiers earlier this year as part of the Hull UK City of Culture celebrations.

Busy rehearsing and recording ahead of a series of live appearances in 2017, they will play the legendary New Adelphi Club in Hull in August to celebrate the launch of their eagerly awaited Black Sun EP.

Fans won’t be disappointed. The music remains original, authentic and from the heart. Each song maintains a unique identity - energetic vocals, raw driven guitar hooks fused on to a solid backbone of bass and drums. The result - foot stomping rocking beats that elevate the soul and make you feel alive! 

If you like your guitar driven rock bands with plenty of spirit and passion, then The Raywells is the band to watch. The sound is authentic - as real as it gets. The band has a lot to say.
