Recorded entirely on vintage analogue recording equipment packed into a disused garage in Leeds, the LP features the vocal talents of Gospel-inspired Soul singer Rachel Modest. Taken from The Magnificent Tape Band's forthcoming debut LP “The Subtle Art Of Distraction”, 'Danger' lays down an ominous groove with tuff hooks and a powerful vocal performance from Rachel Modest. 

The Magnificent Tape Band are the alter egos of ATA Records founders Neil Innes & Pete Williams, who were the creative driving force behind the debut album by The Sorcerers, for which they wrote and produced all the tracks as well as contributing bass and guitar performances. Sheffield born, Rachel Modest developed her unique vocal ability within the churches and gospel choirs of her local community. Now based in Leeds, she has developed a powerful and soulful vocal style that takes inspiration from artists such as Madeleine Bell, Dee Dee Warwick, Dusty Springfield and at times delivers a performance that resembles the falsetto of The Delfonics' William Hart.

Taking inspiration from the more abstract end of the Soul spectrum that has been a richly tapped vein for Hip-Hop producers, The Magnificent Tape Band aim to create an evocative tapestry of sound that pulls together Psychedelic Soul with British Library Music to create a distinctly dramatic sounding record. Recorded on original '60s equipment, using vintage instruments, "The Subtle Art Of Distraction" immediately brings to mind the more experimental Psychedelic Soul records of the late '60s and early '70s by incorporating a driving clavinet, loping drums, swirling organ, and vintage Mellotron alongside Rachel Modest's ethereal and powerful vocals.

The record is definitely one to watch out for if you're a fan of the Big Crown Records catalogue, The Sorcerers, Mulatu Astatke, or any form of Soul-inspired Hip-Hop.

'Mantra Moderne' is a stunning, contemporary masterpiece that fuses Anatolian Psychedelia, Brazilian Tropicalia, 60’s European pop and American jazz. A must for fans of Khruangbin, Portishead, Arthur Verocai, Goat, Caetano Veloso, Tom Zé, Os Mutantes, Cortex and co.

The duo is formed of Kit Martin, who lives between London and France and plays all instruments on the album, and Merve Erdem, vocalist and multi-disciplinary artist from Istanbul, now based in London. This is their debut album.

The album explores universal themes such as love, loss, decay, language and ideology, mixing three different languages: English, Turkish and French. Written and recorded by the duo - Kit composed all the songs and Merve wrote the lyrics - in rural France during 2018, each song was completed within a 12-hour window, pawning contemplation for spontaneity.

Dubbed by Kit and Merve as ‘lo-fi-hi-fi’ in reference to the high-end tube equipment that helped it find its way to 8-track cassette tape. The style owes its sound to narrow tape width, valve distortion, spring reverb, the mixture of high end gear with lo-fi equipment as well as a disregard to the norms of hi-fi studio techniques. All instruments were analogue and no samples were used. The instruments that are used range from tablas to darbukas, balalaikas to ouds, MS20 synths to Farfisa organs and a lot of cuica. The mixing techniques were done on-the-fly, tracking immediately to tape: compression, EQ, delay and reverb; meaning mixing could not be revisited!

The deluxe edition of ‘Mantra Moderne’ features two previously unreleased tracks - ‘Kozmos' and 'Rain (باران)’. It also includes remixes of album tracks from Baris K, Halal Cool J, and Natureboy Flako (who also contributes an unreleased cover version of ‘Senden Baska’).

After an innovative “electro documentary” EP release in 2015 for the COP21 (JAÏS / Infinie Expansion), Jaïs presents his new project: Oof. Defending a more musical artivist ambition, "All Of Us Is One" is the first of a series of tracks posted with their music video each trimester until the release of the album.
This first rock and groovy track seems straight out of a modern Western. The vocals, in the form of a mantra, invite you to connect to yourself, to the unity of the "Great All" and to free yourself from prophets.
 
The track contains extracts from an interview about psychedelic consciousness with the actor Russel Brand at the Breaking Convention in London (2015) : 
“ ‘Cause we are that force. We’ve got our own way back to this force, this source, this power, this consciousness, this energy."
 
When director Xavier Zahra listens to the track, he falls in love with it to the point of directing the film. As a special effects specialist (Gravity, Game of Thrones), he delivers a sequence shot which follows the path a joint at a party in 1969. Several people have since joined the project: Jie Pop on vocals, Boris Kulenovic on bass (Mei tei Sho, Susheela Raman...) and Laurent Gueirard on drums.

Après avoir sorti un EP en 2015 à l’occasion de la COP21 dans un style « électro documentaire » inédit (JAÏS / Infinie Expansion), Jaïs présente son nouveau projet : Oof. Défendant une ambition artiviste plus musicale, "All Of Us Is One" est le premier d’une série de titres postés avec leur clip chaque trimestre jusqu’à la sortie de l’album. Ce premier morceau rock et groovy semble tout droit sorti d’un Western moderne. Le chant, sous forme de mantra, invite à la connexion à soi-même, à l’unité du « Grand Tout » et à s’affranchir des prophètes.
 
Le titre contient des extraits d'une interview à propos de la conscience psychédélique avec le comédien Russell Brand lors de la Breaking Convention de Londres (2015): 
“ ‘Cause we are that force. We’ve got our own way back to this force, this source, this power, this consciousness, this energy."

(French below) DJ, director and international VJ, DJ OOF has given 500 audiovisual shows in famous festivals and in over 40 countries. This page shows his eclectic production. The upcoming tracks as "OOF" are a mixture of psychedelic rock, pop, ethnic, electronic music & activism. It's featuring several singers including Mike Ladd & words from Russell Brand, Captain Paul Watson (Sea Shepherd) and many others.
He has produced more than 15 eclectic mixtapes such as the album Cinémix (Universal).  His others aliases are ZZouf (breakbeat psyché) and Lunivers (check out the electro-pop hit “Happy Route”!). As JAÏS, he released in 2016 an ecological protest EP in french, "Infinie expansion", for the COP21 environnement conference. He had interviewed 60 personalities, asking them "What is the solution to change the world?" and add their answers to his music.
