Known Unknowns is billy woods’ new album, a follow-up to 2013’s Blockhead collaboration Dour Candy. Blockhead is still behind the boards here but there are also a couple beats from his longtime collaborator Aesop Rock. But the center of the whirlwind is still woods, who re-emerges from a two-year hiatus after releasing the avant-garde Today, I Wrote Nothing in early 2015. Known Unknowns finds the artist on more melodic ground, but still his esoteric, acerbic self, spinning verses equal parts joy and terror, wry wit and blind rage. There are guest appearances from ELUCID (Armand Hammer), as well as Aesop Rock, Homeboy Sandman, Googie, singer Barrie McLain and DJ Mo Niklz. Since Dour Candy, Blockhead has worked with Aesop, Sandman and MarQ Spekt but Known Unknowns shows that he and woods have developed their own unique chemistry.

Backwoodz Studioz is excited to debut the first official single, "Body Of Work," featuring Masai Bey and Roc Marciano, from History Will Absolve Me, the new album from billy woods

The track, produced by Willie Green, is one of the earliest that the emcee and beatsmith recorded for the album, and billy woods grew immediately attached to the track upon hearing it live in the studio. "The inspiration for 'Body Of Work' comes from chain-gang spirituals," he explains. "All of the verses concern themselves with work, but also with getting older and trying to sum up one's life, for better or worse."

After laying his verse, woods knew he wanted features on the song, but he also know it couldn't be just anyone, given the weighty retrospective - and introspective - subject matter. "I knew I needed some older cats on it," notes woods. Each rapper builds on the themes that billy sets forth in the opening verse ("if you are familiar with the land issue in South Africa and Zimbabwe, the content of my verse might be a little clearer," says woods), and each add their own personal experiences and emotions, bringing the track to life with three unique and insightful perspectives.

From Hell’s Roof to the Rhine Valley, Rochester, NY emcee Eto (formerly known as Lil’ Eto) and German-Spanish producer Superior have joined forces! The resulting full-length collaboration, “Long Story Short” is set to drop via Below System Records (Digital & CD) on April 12th (with vinyl coming courtesy of Tuff Kong Records).

As evidenced by first single “Fortune” and accompanying video, Eto’s penchant for balancing the pain of the street and the progression of the hustle is a perfect foil for Superior’s cinematic and somber beat-scapes.

Speaking on the collaboration, Superior said “My previous releases were rooted in my love of boom-bap. However, when I linked up with Eto, I started producing specifically with him in mind and keeping it more atmospheric in keeping with the coldness of his environment and narratives.” With a gripping chemistry throughout the only guest spots on the project is from Skyzoo and Toronto rhyme-counterpart, Daniel Son.

Of course Eto has been releasing audio masterpieces at a dizzying rate in the past several months. These include his new full-length collaboration with DJ Muggs (Cypress Hill) entitled “Hell’s Roof” (which is a nickname for his hometown which has one of the highest crime rates in the country) and recent surprise EP, “Heather Grey” with long-time production collaborator VDon (Dark Lo, Conway The Machine) and emcee Willie The Kid. Eto also was featured on one of the most celebrated albums for 2018 Westside Gunn’s, “Hitler Wears Hermes 6” (“John Bena” produced by DJ Muggs) As a producer, Eto also recently laced tracks for Benny The Butcher, 38 Spesh and Jamal Gasol.

Constantly adapting his work as a producer, Superior's catalogue for Below System Records includes his 2017 production album, “The Journey”, which included appearances from Blu, Edo. G, Reks, Termanology and Lil Fame among others.

His full-length album with Chicago emcee, Verbal Kent, “Half My Life” was released in 2018 and had appearances from Vic Spencer, Sonnyjim and Recognize Ali.
