This was made on the fly on a cold Sunday in January 2006 so my brother had some new sounds to listen to while in the hospital. After giving it a few listens I thought everyone should enjoy this.

At one time, I was mostly playing hip-hop at my gigs. This mix gives a small taste of the vibe of my parties back then.

Since this is the 12th volume in this series it had to be a 12x12" mix, obviously. Picking twelve songs out of thousands of 12"s covering various genres is really hard! This could have went in any direction but ended up being a short disco mix of classics. All vinyl ;)

The temperature here in NYC has been freezing!! This session is a resistance to the harsh weather and embraces the warmth and connectivity within us all.

This short mix starts with Anderson Paak gets into some abstract beats including Flying Lotus , a little jazz vocals for good measure and somehow ends with John Mayer. Don't ask....just roll with it.

Travel is about the journey.

It's also about transience, imperfections, memory, emotions, celebration, desires, challenges, achievements, timing, movement, diversity and finding comfort in the unfamiliar. So many things invoked within the semantics of such a simple word.

In this session, I tried to capture some of what traveling means as applied to music. The process of creating this also drew many parallels of traveling- planning, experimenting and realizing it must finally be drawing to a close and reentering our reality.

It was pretty late when I recorded this session and thought it would be a pretty chill set. It starts out that way then gets into a heavy house & techno workout for the duration.

It's a been a while since I've actually pressed record but glad I did this time. Starting out with some chill tracks, this mix quickly gets into a deep house and techno workout before closing out with some disco, soul & boogie.

Songs I Like #19

This mix was done with only original pressings using only 2 turntables & a mixer. Some of these records may be rare and many are not but none of this matters. The music is more valuable than any format or equipment. Hence the title "More Than 7inches". 

This was done in 2005.

More Than 7 inches Pt.1

I love this mix and still one of my personal favorites. I presented this as a 'house' mix in 2004. Back then people either loved or hated that I started it with a Syro Gyra record and put in some other songs that aren't "house". For me though, it's about a feeling and these all capture that essence of what the genre is to me.

New Born Sun

My friend and legendary graffiti/mural artist Pose 2 (a founder of the FX crew) used to throw a jam every summer called the BBoy BBQ. In 2004, with some help from Phat Pharm and other sponsors, we were able to do this mix which accompanied a very limited edition book handmade by Bret "Down Roc" Syfert and featured photos from the past events and original work from Philly.

It was a cold winter.

The horrific events of 9/11 happened a little more than a year before and America was in a major transitional phase in terms of politics, identity and the future. I was personally having my own ups and downs but was fortunate to have a steady stream of gigs to have some creative release and to share good music with great people.

At the time, my collection was a bit smaller which forced me to be very meticulous with my selections for these mixes. This was the era before digital and it took several weeks of periodically piecing things together until finally I had all the strands to weave a lush fabric of sonic emotions. 

It was a time for reflection and celebration. 

Many of the songs chosen are over 30 years old to make a point that history repeats itself and that some music transcends time and always stays relevant to the human condition. The result is an orchestrated journey of melodies and lyrics that capture some of my own feelings but also that of the mass consciousness in America.

Can We All Jus' Chill...!?!?

This is a mix dedication to the life and influence of Randy Flash that I did for Sundae (a party & brand based in Philadelphia dedicated to house music & culture). Randy was an icon in the Philly & New York house scenes. I only had the pleasure of sharing the decks with him once but over the years he played an important role in my house collection (and any legit house DJ in/from Philly). As the buyer at Sound Of Market, Randy played an integral role in getting good records to the people and was always open to share the gems and spread the gospel of real house music. He was one of the nicest people in the Philly music scene and a friend to all. He never forgot anybody and he will never be forgotten.
