Excited this month to welcome Cottam to the fold. Have been a huge fan of Cottam for many years, so much so he has his own little section on the record shelves. Its been a busy couple of months juggling some well needed downtime with friends, family, that big football tourno, the day job and a smattering of gigs  competing for time as the world reopens...happy days indeed! 

So whilst a little late getting this out its afforded more time to gather and organise more music old and new. As a result this months episode is a bit of an epic and all the better for it as we head into summer break territory. 

4 hours of music with a fantastic deep summer infused mix from JCub closing the episode. The first 3 hours mixed live from a twitch transmission 19th July, its a traverse if some favoured electronic territories and a sprinkling of European and Japanese leftfield. 

Many thanks to JCub he's put together a deep selection of house that comes from an ear that has been listening to their craft for many a year and has a collection that can throw up a timeless selection.

The ReFrame & JCub Guest Mix July 2021

In this the September episode of the Reframe, we welcome friend, musical ally and all round good guy Matt White to the offer an hours insight into his musical mind and all thats generally tweaking his ear. 

Hailing from the capital of Teeside….Middlesbrough, Matt has crafted an hours mix of music from the deeper left of centre shelf to close the last hour of the show.

Matt will be joining us over at Sheaf St on Oct 9th and hopefully on regular basis over the coming months for the ReFrame residency with his trusted record bag spanning genres through Balearic jewels, obscure disco, chuggy downtempo up into more deep electronic territories.

Matt very rarely puts together a mix so this is an opportunity to hear his sound, he doesn't disappoint kicking off with a psyche-folk beauty and seamlessly moving into and through a selection of chugging electronics with a few twists and turns along the way

Its October already, the weathers shifting and thankfully we've got a heater of an episode this month. Craig Christon joins for a musical wander through those sounds currently catching his attention. 
Craig has plied his music as a DJ for best part of 20+ years, he's a top lad and self-styled Acid house veteran (his own words btw). He’s also a fantastic DJ, travelling across the UK and Europe to play at some the finest establishments..I’ve danced to him many times in fields and dark corners over the years

In more recent times he has accompanied his DJ career with a move into record label ownership/production under his pseudonym Lenny Paradise… label owner for the consistent Passport to Paradise Records that has released music from Beppe Loda, Albion, Macadam Mambo, Mori Ra, Loud E, Soft Rocks and Jaz amongst others. Some talent right there and a right discography, go seek if you haven’t already!

Craigs current project is Broken Detail an offshoot of Passport 2 Paradise with music forthcoming. On this months ReFrame he closes the show from the 2h 5min mark with an hours delve into left of centre electronic  goodness. The ReFrame & Craig Christon (Beyond Paradise) Oct 21

Another year draws to close and its been another strange one by all accounts. This month we welcome JBERR, an artist ventured upon back in the summer for the final episode of 2021.

JBERR is the outlet for Melbourne-based Jack Berryman's delicately crafted low-fidelity vignettes and stripped-back Antipodean techno sketches. Drawing on decades of home-studio R&D, and an observational outlook soundtracked by experimental composition, 90s hip hop, dub, house and the techno spectrum, the project seeks to set free some of the more fully formed ideas cooked up over the past few years.

Jack has put together a selection of his own music for a 45 minute mix that closes out the last episode of '21 in his own deep electronic style. Thanks Jack

The ReFrame & JBERR (Melbourne)

Have been a huge fan of Rocky & Diesel since stumbling across them aged 18 firing out what was to be a sound that would shape my musical trajectory thereon. Tracks dropped that night were Carl Craigs paperclip people nestling amongst NY gay disco anthem Born this way by Carl Bean and deep house tinged with mood and soul in the main room of Cream Liverpool.  

As a youthful adolescent we’d try get into cream but struggled week on week until a chance encounter one Saturday and opportunity seized when the promoter Darren Hughes popped into JD sports where I had a Saturday job. 

What followed was an exchange of Green Adidas Marathon,  a giving from John and David aka JD sports for services to house music. The favour was returned with a contact number scribbled on some paper and the words just call this when you're coming down to Cream and you and a mate can go on the guestlist.. whenever.

That was August 1994…27 plus years ago.  Its such an honour to have Rocky aka Darren Rock, one half of that duo and a third of the global reaching X-Press II  to close out the show with an hour of signature dance-floor arsenal.

This month Andy Pye from balearic Social joins me. Andy is a good friend, musical font of knowledge and all round good guy so its great to welcome him back to the ReFrame for his second round, last one was clsoe to a decade ago now... wowzers!

The ReFrame provides two hours of cosmic disco balearica with a dash of 80s swerveballs and a chunk of ReFrame edits. The ReFrame & Balearic Social Part 2

This month we have a bit of a mammoth selection of music, in part due to there being so much great music out there and also this month coincides with pulling together music for the opening of Chow Down. The first ReFrame of 2023 and one that's been coming together on the slow cook for a few months now, crystallising as the soundtrack to a recent break away in the Lakes.

The first hopefully in a series that's unashamedly stolen it's name from Enid Blytons splendid children's tale... a childhood fave.  Musically this is one gently ambles through left of centre hazy downbeats, psyche, folk, library music, a bit of MF Doom and lots of Balearic niceties. Picking up the pace to close with a few Afro cosmic percussive faves old and new.

Pleased with how this one's come together. The ReFrame - The Magic Faraway Vol.3

Spent some time in recent months thinning out the record collection, those no longer listened to off for others to discover. Parting with vinyl and the memories attached is never easy, but lots of record listening was fruitful with a handful of newly discovered B side gems making it worth the while!

Much of the time was spent listening to records from the late 90s, early 2000s, taking me back to the art of crafting wonky mixes on belt drive Soundlab turntables - just a pile of records and 90 minutes on a chrome tape to fill with a range of sounds. Given limited funds and records owned I'd scour B sides for new and interesting sounds. 

So here's a mix from vinyl from this era, all records still cherished! Criss-crossing genre, 2 hours of trip hop, a little hip hop/modern soul/funk, broken beats/breaks and off into deep early 2000s house. A couple edits of tracks and a couple of new records squashed in that sound of the era for good measure.... hope you dig.

Next up on the ReFrame we have the wonderful Baz and Nova, Leeds very own pair of Balearic Archaeologists, not averse to picking their way through Europe's dusty record recesses for the weird the wonderful and mostly elusive oddities! A perfect ReFrame accompaniment... ❤️

I first met Baz one Saturday night not long after COVID restrictions had eased and back playing records at Outlaws Yacht Club. By chance and unknowingly to me he wandered in whilst playing his latest record Exstatic Love on Magic Wand (serious tune). After intros from Shaun we had a good chat that evening and struck up a friendship around similar musical strands. 

Having not seen each other for a little while we caught up at the Bill Brewster talk at Melodie 73 a couple of weeks back and just last week dancing to the wonderful Idjut Boys on a Balmy Sunday evening at Rotation Garden Party 24, a fitting spearhead for finishing this selection and getting this out.

As always the show is made up of lots of personal edits snipped away for maximal dancefloor pressure. This month also sees the first inclusion of the ReFrame There is Nothing Left to do, an Italian 80s oddity beefed up and crafted for the dancefloor. This month we have another Leeds guest joining, Scott Sherriden someone I caught back up with at the Idjut Boys closing set at Rotation Festival as the Summer drew to a close. Scott brings a wealth of musical experience having played at some of the Norths seminal nights in the heyday of house musics ascension, most notably Leeds institution back2Basics. Scott closes out the show with a nigh on 2 hour mix.

Scott Sherriden Bio - In the mid-80s, I fell in love with Electro, Beat Street, Graffiti, and Hip-Hop, with 808 beats and electro sounds threading through all my DJ sets. In 1991, I moved to Bournemouth, DJing house parties before landing a weekly residency at Madisons Night Club. In 1993, I relocated to Leeds and became a resident DJ at Back2Basics, playing alongside legends like Paul Oakenfold, Roger Sanchez, Andy Weatherall, and Derrick Carter, not to mention the other residents, Ralph Lawson Huggy, James Holroyd.

On this episode of the ReFrame we welcome Pete Blaker, who in his own words is the man who made a bunch of magical edits that made their way into record boxes across the world and lit up the worlds best dancefloors.  

Known for his relationship with DJ Harvey who seems to play an endless array of edits by Pete, his releases on labels including Hot Biscuit recordings, Balearic Blah Blah, XXX and his recent remix work for Rheinzand on Danish label  Music for Dreams he is very much an artist and producer in demand.

Pete kicks off this months episode with a 90 minute mix that twists and turns through genre, tempo and melody. Ahead of the mix I caught up with Pete and asked him about his Remix work for Rheinzand, his relationship with DJ Harvey, his record collection and some of those records he just couldn’t part with.

The event is taking place on Ashleys birthday, 25th November at Belgrave hall with a list of music selectors dropping in to soundtrack a night that hopes to raise funds to further support Ash in his recovery

Ashley Beedle needs no introduction, he is  one of the UK underground scenes early pioneers, a name synonymous with house, roots, soul music his contributions are woven deep in it's tapestry. From his early Ballistic Brothers and Black science orchestra productions he has gone on to produce under numerous monikers including Black Jazz Chronicles  DarkStarr, Afrikanz on Marz, Heavy Disco, Los Jugaderos, Mavis, North Street West and many more

The ReFrame Show :: The hills are alive....

This selection has been in the offing for a few months now after locating a stack of minidiscs in a dusty recess. The plan was to upload a live mix from plan B back in 2007 when we welcomed the forefather DJ Pierre to our (mine and Adrian Blunts) established B-Side night at Plan B in Brixton. A 20 years of acid house special no less, the slight glitch... the mix, had corrupted and forever it shall rest in memory. 

Have tried to recall most of the tracks from that night and embellished a little with just the best ones here :-) and a couple of tracks dug in recent times that sit kindly in the mix.

This is head down, deep late 80's house barring the last track which is from 92. Its all early house forms, warm baselines.

The ReFrame :: Proto House Mix 86/92

Its lockdown 3, we're all a bit weary so what better tonic than a fresh edition of the Reframe. This month we support another of Leeds many up and coming talents with Mezla joining The Reframe with a guest mix for the last hour of the show.

DJ, resident and curator for the established club night Limit and @lwr-music (Limit x Revamp x WTS).  Event manager, booking agent & Resident @distriktbarleedsevent. Mezla has a nice versatility to his repertoire with sets weaving between different realms of house & techno, breaks, acid, leftfield, disco, italo through to slow chugging trippy sonics. His mix for the reframe falls in that latter chug slo mo frame. 

This month the Reframe kicks off the show with ventures into deep electronics with a slow building collection setting out at 90bpm and moving up into mid tempo 19 bpm territories.
