Eli Escobar is the quintessential New York City DJ. A devoted collector, explorer and connoisseur of all kinds of music from hip-hop roots, he is hugely well-respected in the New York club circuit after over two decades of mutual love for the city and the house scene. Most at home hunched over the decks at some jumping club on a Brooklyn backstreet, he also has production magic at his fingertips. While growing up in Manhattan Eli worked for a time in a record shop, soaking up the sounds of New York’s clubbing epicentre which strongly informed his take on dance music and the shape of his four albums.

Keeping him busy outside of the studio is Tiki Disco, a party he co-runs which was started in 2009 in New York. Now holding pop-ups around the globe, Tiki Disco events are juggled around Eli’s residencies at New York institutions Le Bain and Battlehymn. His diary also includes solo parties at Good Room, House of Yes, and further afield at clubs in Detroit, Boston, Miami and San Francisco. Internationally Eli plays at the likes of Phonox in London, Lux in Lisbon, Panorama Bar in Berlin, and key venues in Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, Manchester, Dublin and various hotspots in Asia and Australia

Because of our weekly 2-hour radio show, making and releasing mixes is something we don't get around to often. They tend to require too much energy and often end up feeling ephemeral, a drop in a bucket that's already full to the brim.

This 5.5 hour mix is a live recording from us, Paul Raffaele & Barbie Bertisch, DJing at 718 Sessions on Sunday November 21, 2021, a gig we recently played that meant a lot to us. Benny Soto and Danny Krivit will celebrate their 19th anniversary next week and the party has long served as a beacon of light in our world: a place to learn, be with chosen family, release the pressure and experience joy.

This lineup was originally booked for March 22, 2020 but it was cancelled due to COVID. Luckily, the same lineup was revived for the party's return to indoor dancing, taking place at Good Room in Brooklyn. This night was particularly special because it was the first time we would play 718 Sessions, our favorite party, as a duo.

In a pivot from what one might expect from our sets, we made a conscious effort not to play any Garage or Loft classics to widen the musical offering of the party and avoid overlap with Danny in the main room. Some mixes are great, some aren't, but in a bit of a protest to today's world digital perfection, we've kept it all in there and serves as a record for one of our favorite nights DJing together ever.

We recorded line in from the mixer but also the sounds of the room, blending music and crowd together and resulting in what you'll hear throughout the mix. It's an effort to capture some of the room's energy and not just a collection of songs one after the other.

Our style is representative of an amalgamation of the DJs we grew up listening to and studying, most intensely: Joaquin 'Joe' Claussell, François Kevorkian, Danny Krivit, Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy, Louie Vega, Dope Jams, Theo Parrish, but there are many more. Thank you for the inspiration.

Originally inspired by the music electrifying Detroit’s airwaves, Jason Kendig has been collecting and mixing a broad range of dance music for well over two decades. From his first residency at Detroit’s infamous club Motor in the late 90's he went on to become an integral member of San Francisco's Honey Soundsystem and a resident at Smart Bar in Chicago. Kendig's touring schedule has brought him to dance floors around the globe where he never fails to make others move through his ability to reference dance music's past while keeping an ear tuned to the sound of the future.

Known as a vinyl assassin like no other, they provide nights of music unbound by genre, dedicated to dancers; ruled by a furious and vivid emotional spectrum.    This mix for Deep South ATL is an homage to the era of 'Dream House' that continues to inspire 4AM to this day: the heart-racing sweat-dripping soul-quenching delights of that good deep garage house pouring out of NY, NJ, Chicago and Detroit in the late 80's & 90's.
