This week on There Is No Planet Earth Radio I’m excited to welcome DJ Zernell

For this weeks episode I’ll be airing a reel to reel disco mix Zernell made back in the 90s🔥💣🚀

“Zernell was born in Chicago and started DJing at the age of 14. This was during the early years of house music and like a lot of Chicago teens he religiously listened to the Hot Mix 5 on WBMX. Zernell musically grew up in the Music Box and other Chicago clubs listening to the sounds of Ron Hardy and other early pioneers of house music and was schooled by the masters in the art of song selection and timing that drives dancers into a frenzy. Zernell’s Grimy style of music features some of the hottest and rarest house & disco songs and re-edits mixed just the right way to keep you dancing and wanting more, which has made Zernell one of the hottest dj’s in the underground scene today.

Zernell has done numerous parties in cities around the globe. He has toured the U.K. and Europe and headlined parties in London, The Netherlands,
Italy, Sweden, France, Switzerland & Germany. Zernell’s passion for disco & house is as strong as it was in the 80’s and reflects in his extensive record collection of rare vinyl. Out of that passion Zernell created the label Grimy Edits, which have sold thousands of units worldwide.

Zernell Gillie's style can range from the heart of disco to the soul of Chicago house with a grimy twist. With over 30 years of Deejaying under his belt, it shows in all of his mixes & live performances. He heads the highly sought after record label Grimy Edits & the sister label Grimy Trax. He is the creator of the lifestyle brand Grimy Gear. He is the Co-founder of the Crate Diggers Record Fair & After-party series, and has a monthly show on NTS Radio LA. (“Get Grimy” w/Zernell)”

John Julius Knight aka JJK the Brooklyn NY born and bred DJ is in his own right house music royalty. He is best known for his chart-topping dancefloor hits, “All I Do” (Cleptomaniacs feat. Bryan Chambers) Defected Records, "Larrys Jam" & "Find a Friend" on Soulfuric Trax & "House Music" on Subliminal Records and lets not forget his first passion, his magical diverse DJ sets at all the major clubs domestic & Internationally.

Lola Kinks is the alter ego of @lorealporceia—a Philly-based healing practitioner, sexuality educator, licensed social worker, and artist. Born in Richmond, Virginia and raised in Landstuhl, Germany & Atlanta, Georgia, her enthusiasm for music blossomed during her early years abroad. While there, she initially drew inspiration from the jazz rock, Brit funk, and acid jazz artists that her father introduced into their household: Steely Dan, Level 42, and Brand New Heavies, to name a few.

A self-proclaimed retro music & pop culture nerd; she lives for deepening her knowledge in oft-forgotten vintage media history, as well as widening her vocation as a vinyl DJ. In alignment with her work as a(n) educator and healer, her greatest passion as a musical artist resides in holding space for folks to learn, unite in joyful communion, & achieve healing through music and movement.

"This all vinyl mix is an homage to a smattering of late 70s/early-late 80s soul, r&b, and electro funk jams and artists I hold dear. Likewise, the musical amalgamation nods to some of the pioneers of that era, including Dexter Wansel, Steve Arrington, and the dearly departed Kashif. From start to finish, listeners are taken on a journey through some of the most influential sonic vibes over the span of my life's trajectory--closing out with 42 seconds of electronic joy, courtesy of my favorite album of all time."

Here's a chop from Satoshi Yamamura & Mark Cremins passing 4+ hrs (mostly to an empty room) on the Giant Steps Sound System here in Amsterdam last October. Expect a little crackle and hiss - this was a vinyl affair (on beautiful AT VM750SH cartridges) , peppered with home-made tape loops played back on a 4 track cassette machine through a cranky reverb pedal.
