Ides of March

Two thousand years ago in Rome
There lived a wise and mystic seer
Who foretold the death of Rome’s great leader
On the Ides of March, poor Julius Caesar
She told him of her frightful dream
But laughing, he just carried on, and said
“Well, the Ides of March have come”
She replied, “They’ve come but not gone,
This may be your final dawn” 

And when that fateful day arrived
He met his premature demise
Sixty senators conspired
And not a one stood by his side
Octavian vowed a bloody vengeance
The assassins would be caught and tried
And four years thence the deed was done
So many men were crucified
Widows left behind 

Well, Cassius and Brutus fled the scene 
To wage a war and save their hides
But sensing loss and fearing vengeance    
Paid their debt with craven  suicide	 
And this is how the world was made
By those who lust for power and fame
It is our downfall and our shame
Eons pass but we’re still the same

A experiment in homemade samples. All synth sounds, some percussion, voices, chords, "harmonica" sounds, created from my voice, guitar, or bass (no software instuments used). There's also acoustic and electric guitars, and some real drums, including a drum solo inserted from a low-fi, one mic practice session.

Recording on a tiny Korg digital 4 track several years ago, but I no longer have this machine or the original file, so I'm unable to work directly on the original tracks.  Using Logic software, I added strings, flutes, electric piano, fart sounds, kick drum, and synth bass to the mp3, and enhanced the sound as best I could.  Totally rearranged the song to feature strings more, and to draw out the bridge and ending.  I really love this song a lot.  The lyrics are silly but sincere.

He follows my ship as I drift in the sea

He's flying around and he won't go away
It's nice for a while but now it's annoying
Still up there shrieking, hurting my ears
He poops on the deck and I wish he'd get going

Now I am screaming with blood on my face
He's ripping my flesh with his talons of doom
I run around blindly, fall into the sea
And sink to my my death in a watery tomb

Silence is nice every once in a while
Free from the worries of ever-day strife
Sit and relax for a minute or two
But too much serenity can cost you your life.

Here's another song from the mid to late '90's featuring my sister Janice and me on vocals.  I've spruced it up a bit with new percussion, electric guitar, and some vocal effects on the "chanting" section near the end.
