The Local List

I was studying the other day in Genesis, reading about Abraham and his father, who was an idol maker. In the United States, most of us do not have an idol we can hold, but we definitely have other idols to distract us and take our time from communing with the **Creator of our soul** Who loves us so much and desires an intimate relationship with us. It literally broke my heart when I realized this because Jesus has given me so much, in fact He gave me EVERYTHING. I wrote a song about idols but it took me a couple of months to post this, because it hits so deep.
I pray for those hearing this song that the Lord speaks to you, offers you renewal, and lifts you up.

1 John 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
 

🔥 Modern-Day Idols
Comfort – The desire to avoid difficulty or discomfort at all costs, even when it means avoiding obedience.

We crave ease more than endurance, pleasure more than purpose.

Control – The illusion that we can manage every outcome, fix every problem, or dictate the future.

When trust in God feels risky, we try to take His place.

Success / Achievement – Defining identity by accomplishments, careers, or recognition instead of by who we are in Christ.

We often worship progress more than presence.

Approval of Others – Needing validation from people more than affirmation from God.

Social media, popularity, or praise easily become altars we bow to.

Love of Money / Materialism – Equating security with possessions, status, or comfort rather than God’s provision.

We measure worth by wealth instead of worship.

Self – The culture of “self-love” and personal freedom above all else.

The idol of “me first” replaces “Your will be done.”

Entertainment / Distraction – Constant noise, screens, and scrolling that drown out the still, small voice of God.

Whatever keeps us from prayer becomes what we truly prioritize.

Knowledge without wisdom / Technology – Trusting human innovation and intellect more than divine wisdom.

We often ask Google before we ask God.
