With a keen ear for musical expression and an affinity for tight compositional blends, McNulty has dialed in his skills behind the decks, giving established DJs a preternatural run for their money. Music and visual art go together like chunky peanut butter and strawberry preserves, filling in the gaps and accentuating the flavors on both ends of the spectrum. Contemporary A/V mixes have quickly become one of the most accessible and distributed methods for engaging this multifaceted medium.. Denver resident Ashton Suire is showing off his skills as a connoisseur of dusty, boom-bap breaks and tightly composed beats through his Lousy Anna project. With releases across Subciety, all:Lo Collective, and Feyk Collective, he’s carved out a space for his brand of urbanized psychedelia.

For Rusted Rhythms Vol. 41, we tapped Lousy Anna to provide the next installment of the Rusted Rhythms A/V series. The mix itself is a stellar session of jazz flair and head-nod appreciation, featuring a threaded web of original tracks and selections from artists like mono massive and Black Rain. The visual compilation is a collage of colorful designs with mindful cinema; Alfred Hitchcock, Lone Ranger, and other monochromatic films of that era. The chopped rhythms appear to morph with the faces and bodies as they rotoscope and materialize, reaching back to the days of late night, acid-washed VH1 videos. From start to finish, it’s a choice journey across a range of fluid musical territories that’s sure to keep you locked in for the duration of Rusted Rhythms Vol. 41, originally premiered on YouTube on May 23, 2021.

Amidst the sea of contemporary platforms for eclectic electronic music, VALE and Forest Biz maintain a steady position at the forefront of the pack. "When I was asked by the lovely people at The Rust to put together a mix for their Featherbed series I jumped at the opportunity to play a lot of the more mellow music I make to a receptive audience! I do play some of these tracks in club/festival sets, but it’s rare to get the opportunity for an hour-long deep dive. I decided to call it Modal Relays as it feels very much like the tracks are keeping the energy flowing whilst skipping through a variety of different keys and flavours. b1n4ry did an amazing job capturing the feel of the mix with the visuals, and hopefully (now it’s online permanently) this will bring people good vibes for years to come :) Maybe I’ll release the IDs properly someday!"

For the 44th iteration of the Rusted Rhythms series, we tapped into the effusive songwriting and attitude of EOS to provide a full-service hour of his personal productions. Brandishing an all-original setlist with plenty of unreleased tunes, the mix showcases both EOS' brand of reverberant bass music and the collaborative projects currently under his belt. It's a glossy-eyed journey through trip-hop, neuro, drum and bass, and the bridges between them, taking listeners for a ride through the developing EOS catalog. Rusted Rhythms Vol. 45 - wij

In order to pack a proper punch for Rusted Rhythms Vol. 46, we felt compelled to team up with Phydra for a rambunctious hour of Drum and Bass anthems and rollers. Head of the @Danktronics record label, and having been previously featured through The Rust with his track "Exposure", the pairing could hardly be more natural, and Phydra's exquisite dive into the DnB spectrum hits the mark several times over.

Maneuvering from bass weight to melodic fluidity and back again, the mix is awash with rapid transitions, crushing breakdowns, and smooth-cruising liquid fundamentals. With clear control over mixability and a powerful and eclectic mix of tunes, Phydra's command of his DnB experience betrays the time and effort put into laying out a fluid mix with such demonstrable skill, and if it sent us into a tizzy, it's liable to send old fans and new ears into a full on frenzy.

Soaring into Brooklyn at terminal velocity from the Mile High City of Denver, Nestra's performance at BK Mirage landed in the dead center of a 12 hour marathon cutting-edge dance floor music. Known as an impeccable selector and DJ in her home city, it's no surprise that she hit the decks with extreme prejudice. After being boots on the ground ourselves for the ensuing frenzy, we're incredibly excited to host Nestra's recorded set in posterity as the 50th edition of Rusted Rhythms.

Stepping squarely out of the boundaries of her contemporaries sharing the stage, Nestra's hour in the spotlight featured a whiplash cocktail of breakbeat, house, and a dash of psybient attitude. The frenetic rhythms and the driving low end featured throughout the mix come from a deep well of talent, including the likes of Nikki Nair, Guau, and Sam Binga, with each track burning serious rubber out of each successive transition. For the 37th edition of Rusted Rhythms, we have the honor of presenting a chilled-out mix of dela Moon’s finest blends and selections. Through the venerable role as an organizer of the Moontribe Collective, and a personal history stretching back through the recent decades of electronic music, dela’s touch behind the decks is as recognizable as it is infectious, and she left none of her talent on reserve for this dive through low-end psychedelia. 

Brandishing her honed-in understanding of key, mode, and tempo, dela successfully crafts a narrative journey from beginning to end, featuring the craftsmanship of producers like Somatoast, Kursa, DRRTYWULVZ, Futexture, and a host of other like-minded artisans. Clocking in at an hour and eight minutes, it’s a full course meal with dessert included, but we’d expect nothing less from one of the vanguard purveyors of sound system music and culture. For our 38th installment of the Rusted Rhythms series, Rust family favorites pheel. and parkbreezy have resurrected their Featherbed set to showcase loads of original tracks and a few choice flips and remixes. Co-founders of the all.Lo label, and the brains behind the Morning Coffee project, these two producer/dj's have their fingers on the pulse of trip-hop's many varieties, creating their signature blends through an infusion head-nod fundamentals with ample servings of saturated bass weight.

Right from the jump, they zero in on the vibe of the hour, delivering smooth cuts of collaged melodies and brackish drum breaks. Their own individual styles meet at the nexus of broken beats and juiced-up sub frequencies, balancing the high of a listening experience with the pull of a physical experience. They were even gracious enough to mix in a Groovsauce track, courtesy of their live project with Thought Process. Through and through, Rusted Rhythms Vol. 38 is a gift to both heads in the know and new fans alike, with the simple assurance that you'll be coming back for more as soon as you finish your first serving.
