I'd Rather Just Die

These Are My Ghosts is the musical pseudonym of Ryan Henry Cox: a metro-Detroit lifer, thirty-something single father, Wayne State English grad, writer, and obsessive-compulsive recorder. Previously, Cox has been known as a singer, songwriter, and guitarist of The Red Rocks and The Good Things.

Under the "Ghosts" name, Cox will compose conceptual musical stories, like the first project, nearing release, titled "Defeats the Porpoise; or, The Tale of Johnny and the Indomitable Sea Monster." Through a novelette and an album of 20+ songs, two narrators tell a quasi-Quixotic absurdist Spaghetti-Western island fantasy about a boy that wakes up from a coma to find his world half-eaten by a massive mammal.

A series of singles from "Defeats the Porpoise" will be released prior to the full project, the first available on June 14, 2019.
