It wasn't Burning Man, but it certainly was a burn!  Crystal Groove made its second appearance on the playa of the Black Rock Desert, and I played an eclectic mix of tracks from all over the world and time. Some old favorites, new sounds and super fun surprises.

If you were there, you know. I don't know how it worked, but it did. It's a small sampling of sounds that I like, but it's a pretty good sampling. I think I did good on this one, and I'm really happy that I'm able to share it with you. I hope you enjoy it. If you're gonna start a day... This might not be the worst way to do it.

Sunrise SHIFT 2025

This mix unfolds like a narrative rather than a DJ exercise. It opens in playful glitch and vapor haze, then locks into a house and electro foundation that steadies the floor. Instead of staying linear, it jolts into ghetto house chaos at 150 BPM, a move that feels more like a dare than a transition, before collapsing into hip hop edits that turn the room communal. From there the set stretches into its spine: a hypnotic techno core that tunnels forward with Amaliah and Pluralist, dense and absorbing, then mutates into Latin and queer club energy with Bitter Babe and LSDXOXO.

The climax comes in two movements: Nikki Nair’s halftime mischief snaps the grid apart, then Pangaea’s percussive storm launches the floor into peak hour frenzy. Just as the dancers lose themselves, Nmesh fractures reality with glitch collage, and the mix closes with a self authored outro at 101 BPM. It feels cinematic, like stepping out of a warehouse into daylight while the walls are still shaking.

What defines the set is contrast. Controlled hypnotic stretches are repeatedly punctured by disruptive turns: glitch, hip hop, halftime. It is a refusal to settle, a declaration that a dancefloor can be destabilized and still held together. The final impression is of a DJ who values tension over comfort, surprise over predictability, and a signature finish over anonymity.

Wow 2020 has been hell of a year.  Unprecedented times, as they say.  However I keep finding myself grateful for all I have and every one of the people in my life. Many years ago, a magical pink mist descended upon the majestic village of Portland, and from those swirling paisley tendrils emerged the sounds of rolling basslines...hypnotic rhythms...catchy lyrics… The sounds grew louder, revealing an array of house music, seamlessly flowing from tech, to bass, to deep, electro, tribal, and techno. Soon the sounds became familiar to the citizens - surprised to recognize hints of old favorites - and they smiled as they danced and sweat through the mist.
