The Shallows was a short-lived punk band that formed in early 2007 at University College Falmouth and was comprised of four art students - Joe, Gwilym, Matt and Ben. 

In a life-cycle lasting barely four months they recorded an unreleased three-track EP ‘The Shallows Are Dead’ and played one gig supporting the now-defunct Taking Tiger Mountain (whose band member Mike Lovett later became the recording artist NZCA Lines). 

The guitarist of the The Shallows, Ben, recorded an unreleased electro album under the name Curse These Metal Hands soon after the band broke-up and has made music more recently as B-L-S and Lime and Blankets. 

The bass player, Gwilym Sainsbury, had much greater musical success, forming the experimental rock band Alt-J with three other students at Leeds University and going on to win the Mercury Music Prize in 2012 with the album ‘An Awesome Wave’.
