Lyrical and melodic variation on the earlier, "Put Me In A Box." I was looking for something less whimsical and overtly topical.  This is really the same subject however; just presented through a different, more personal lens:

I've been thinking lately, I really hope you know
When it all turns upside down and It's time to go

Beautiful and strong

Oh darling I don't know what to think
And I don't know how long we can wait
The wolves are hungry now, clawing at the gate
We can't hesitate

Where, where, where do we go?
Where, where, how will we know?
And when will we be home?

And I have been wondering, did you ever dream
We'd see such days, this gothic scene?
Here comes the terror, the war machine
We've got to get away

Oh my dear, as I say, I look to you
You keep your head in danger, never lose your cool
Your are like gold, immutable
In every fire we have known

Where, where, where do we fly?
When, when do we arrive?
And will, will we know why?

The Lying Ape

I'm the ape who builds guitars
And makes kings sing on burning stars
I put atlas on a unicycle
And gave your lass a glass rifle

Men made a monument for man
And a mother's mouth went mute for months
Sister's smile sunk like sand
And shown the shallowness she shunned

Honesty wont sell in a free country
But a lie might get you far
So I grew the fakest tree
And the door I turned it into I left ajar

What's the devil gonna take from me?
I never had a soul to sell
Our maker didn't make us free
What's the devil gonna sell to me?
My soul is only bought for free
At least our maker didn't make us trees

I'm the ape in charge of banks
I make man starve for money's sake
The laws I wrote are mine to break
But this lie of mine makes my heart ache

Honesty might sell in a free country
But a lie will make you a star
So we all bought polyvinyl trees
And left no door ajar
