A gorgeous swell of intimate soundscaping from Felisha Ledesma on this simmering stunner for Ecstatic, despatching two extended, richly absorbing pieces weft from everyday detritius; synths, strings, voicemail, found sounds - hitting a similar spot for us as Ulla’s diaristic 'inside means inside me’ but with a more defined play of sound-as-light that gently and memorably tugs at the earlobes and heartstrings. 

Exploring a music of presence and ultra subtle inference, ‘Fringe’ is the 2nd release by Ledesma, student of Berlin's estimable Universität der Künste, following from a debut for Enmossed x Psychic Liberation earlier this year. Using AMQR - a software synthesiser built by Ledesma together with Ess Mattisson - both pieces here shimmer with elusive timbres that occupy a realm that feels lost between worlds - neither electronic nor acoustic, but more a sort of observational sound that radiates togetherness and warmth. 

Operating at insightful levels of synaesthesia, Ledesma poetically turns ostensibly humdrum sources into clouds of smoke - emails, voicenotes, walking along the water, a poem attached to an email, walking alone in New York during lockdown, going for a swim at sunset in the desert - all turn into a smudge of memory. When ‘Beamsplitters’ opens with a tangible human presence - a voicemail from a friend - it startles with its earthly pull, eventually getting lost in a tangled spool of found sound leaving just a trace of iridescent, intimate reverie. 

On ‘Golden Mirror’ Felisha gently diffracts a lonesome guitar phrase into a humming thizz with a steeply uncanny ability to jog the memory in a similar way to how olfactory stimulus can conjure feelings of nostalgia. It’s a trick familiar from an emergent new realm of lower case composers creating something like submerged, small scale symphonies that work counter to notions of classical excess or anodyne ambient, instead focusing on microcosmic, highly peronalised sort of worldbuilding that’s impenetrable, yet somehow entirely open.

Zagreb. A city where twilight slides down the facades like a thin layer of copper. The air hums with electricity, salt, and the distant ring of rails. In this trembling interval between day and night, the sound of Croatian dub techno artist Electric Head (@bass-electric-head) emerges — as if the evening shadow itself decided to speak through a delay filter and a soft, breathing bass, leaving traces in every drop of reverb.

Original works.
::: Twilight Dub sounds like the breathing of electricity. Layers of echo overlap like old magnetic tapes left to fade in a field of forgotten frequencies. The bass isn’t a strike — it’s the movement of light along an inner axis.
::: Loop of Thoughts is a spiral where the mind listens to itself, curling into a warm cycle of haze and sonic vapor.
::: Vacation Plan feels like a postcard from a place that doesn’t exist — where the sea’s murmur replaces the bass and the echo imitates the wind’s breath.
::: Summer’s End — a tiny epilogue written in rays that never reached the ground.

And then — the transformations.
::: Sergio Sincopa (@sergiosincopa) adds a gentle acid tint to Twilight Dub — as if warm phosphorus were melting through the lattice of delay. His version breathes light, yet the shadow still lingers within.
::: Oldschool_Dubtechno .Producer (@enercube & @x_fr), in Shadow Hazy Vision, dives into the depths where sound blurs like glass underwater, becoming a memory of noise itself.
::: Chain Selector (@chainselector) deconstructs Loop of Thoughts into fragments and reassembles it — like a techno engineer reconstructing a dream.
::: Dom Dumoulin (@domdumoulin), with his en Vacances version, turns Vacation Plan into a sea-soaked reverie — steeped in humid wind and salty laziness, like a long morning sleep by the water.
::: moodeep (@moodeep) closes the journey with inner light — his remix is a morning impulse penetrating layers of delay, leaving behind the feeling of stillness.

Twilight Dub EP is a chronicle of motion — from light to darkness and back again.
Music where each track is a step through the dusk, each reverb — the city’s breath, each loop — a repetition of an eternal dream. There is no ending in this sound — only the recurrence of light. Faitiche is happy to be releasing the album Improvisations And Edits, Tokyo 26.09.2001 on vinyl for the first time. For the original 2002 CD on Soup-Disk and Sub Rosa (Audiosphere), Jan Jelinek and the Japanese trio Computer Soup (Satoru Hori – trumpet, Osamu Okubo - toys & electronics, Kei Ikeda - toys & electronics) presented eight tracks all recorded one afternoon in the trio’s living room in Tokyo. They are excerpts from a joint group improvisation that subsequently underwent rudimentary editing, on which Jelinek and Computer Soup worked separately.

Jelinek met the three musicians at his first concert in Japan in 2001, at Tokyo’s Yellow club, where Computer Soup performed as the support act. Delighted by their free improvisation on pocket-sized electronic toys, trumpet and oscillators, he arranged to meet Hori, Okubo and Ikeda a few days later for a session at their apartment. The resulting three-hour recording, made on their living room floor, formed the basis for Improvisations and Edits. A few days later, Jelinek returned to Berlin. Over the following months, they separately chose passages from the recording that were then edited and assembled into an album.

Formed in Tokyo in 1996 as a quintet (including Shusaku Hariya and Daisuke Oishi), Computer Soup began by performing with acoustic instruments on the streets of Shibuya. Ikeda und Okubo soon switched instruments, and from then on the group’s minimalistic but densely woven sound was defined by electronic toys, oscillators and Satoru Hori’s trumpet. Their first album was released in 1997 on the Japanese label Soup Disk. Eight further releases followed.

The mind-blowing first track "Straight Life" is perhaps the best example of what the album has to offer. Jelinek's trademark smears and washes occupy the midrange, like ghosted images of Joe Zawinul's electric piano floating quietly in the wind. DSP jazz modes are set against a walking bassline (possibly computer generated) and a gently tooted trumpet complete with Harmon mute, a dead ringer for Miles Davis' Prestige-era ballads. The effect is something like a three-dimensional film, with different realities on each layer; images of what jazz was manage to interact with a real-time demonstration of all it could be.

“Improvisations and Edits” is a warm and mellow Ambient release with beautiful glitch fragments, static noise bursts and real trumpet intersections. However, there are times where it is the exact opposite, mainly effect-laden, overdriven and bouncy with a lack of melodies and focus, so be aware of these specific tracks.

Often deliciously dreamy and hazy, “Improvisations and Edits” is like listening to an exceptional instrumental jazz performance while half-conscious or under some sort of chemical influence. Computerised blips and bleeps, loops and treatments and murky sonic skips curl up around desolate horn notes and scattered instrumental noises that culminate in elegant music.

An addendum of sorts to his recent 'Faint Hearted' album, Miles' returns with a half-hour EP more squarely aimed at the floor with four darkened, robust variants. 'Blatant Statement' is up first, slowly emerging from a rough alignment of metallic percussion and abrasive stabs not a million miles removed from the kind of racket you'd most likely associate with Vatican Shadow, before the almost-clipped rub of those super-warm bass stabs shifts the perspective to a different kind of environment altogether. 'Technocracy' delivers an oozing House deconstruction, slowed down and inebriated, while 'Infinite Jest' revolves around an industrial cacophony harnessed into a rhythmic anomaly situated somewhere between a technofied Pete Swanson and a sweaty Kassem Mosse. 'Plutocracy' ends the set with a bleached-out warehouse chug, slowed down and menacing, surrounded by a submerged choral arrangement and more of that toughened hammered-metal sound that runs through the EP.
