The Small Cities formed in the Twin Cities in 2006, with the goal of playing music that they like to play, whatever that ends up being.

The Small Cities are: David Osborn (drums/vocals), Leif Bjornson (guitar/vocals), Jimmy Osterholt (bass), and Wes Burdine (guitar/harmonies). David and Leif are high school pals from Amery WI, and have been in bands together since high school. Jimmy and Wes met David in college and have made music together since, including David’s stint in Wes Burdine and The Librarians.  The Small Cities began as a three-piece in 2006 with David, Leif, and Jimmy, until they added a fourth (Todd Bratulich) in 2008, who was later replaced by Wes when Todd had an adorable baby girl named Solveigh and Wes moved back to MN for his PhD in Literature. 

The Small Cities released their self titled EP in 2008 and have just finished recording a full length entitled With Fire, to be released this fall. They have been featured on TPT’s MN Original program, Kare11’s Showcase Minnesota, and Misplaced Music’s relaunch party, and have appeared on MTV’s My Life as Liz. The Small Cities EP received radio play on over 200 radio stations including MPR’s The Current, and spent 5 weeks on CMJ’s top 200, hitting the charts on 58 stations.
