GMJ & Matter need little introduction to the underground dance cognoscenti. In-demand producers and DJs with a beguiling sound that defines modern progressive house, the Australian duo return to Balance Music with their ‘Helioflow’ EP.

Both prodigious artists in their own rights with a slew of high-profile releases to their name, the Australian duo first came to prominence as a collaborative force with their May 2016 'Superposition' EP on Proton Music. Since then, GMJ & Matter have continued to see their careers hit stratospheric heights as international DJs, producers and label owners.

Now returning to Balance Music for the first time since 2019’s ‘Emerge' EP, alongside fellow countryman, FunkForm, the 'Helioflow' title track is a glorious modern progressive house gem. Full of trademark production characteristics, a heavy kick and hypnotic percussive groove lays the foundation for swirling white-noise fuelled pads to rise and fall gently. Before long, a filtered synth line enters the fray liberally coated in sweeping delays and cavernous reverb. Evolving easily to the mid-point, textured elements and motifs combine in a haunting breakdown before the powerful rhythmic foundation drops back in to create a pulsating closing movement.

Imagine sitting on a high-rise building with your legs dangling from the edge—that's the adventure on offer in 'Skyline Depth.' The drum section takes you on an enveloping ride through shuffling hats and tightly bound percussion, all accentuated by dream-like synths and samples awash in the most glorious reverb. The journey culminates in a sensational breakdown, where balmy, mirage-haze melodies rise in the distance. This is a track to share with friends on early morning dancefloors as the sun rises.

Renowned Sri Lankan music maestros Echo Daft & Kyotto join forces, blending their exceptional talents to craft a groundbreaking EP 'Lazerbeam', rich with emotive landscapes and lush melodies. Fusing elements of New Progressive House with entrancing grooves and basslines, their signature sound sets the stage for an unforgettable journey through ethereal space. EP also includes a dreamy Ambient Mix. 

In addition to their mesmerizing original tracks, this EP features a remix by the dynamic artist Forty Cats. Known for her versatility, Forty Cats unveils a fresh perspective, infusing the EP with deeper grooves and minimalist vibes while retaining hints of melodic allure reminiscent of Progressive House. With each track, listeners are treated to a kaleidoscope of sonic textures, offering a truly immersive musical experience.

Nikko.Z's Dopamine White wraps up a strong spring season by welcoming Jadon Fonka to the label for his debut EP. Sri Lankan artist Anupa Fonseka aka Jadon Fonka released his first project in 2017, and over the course of the last seven years has followed a seldom travelled path. Rather than focus on one distinctive style, Jadon has released EDM, Electro House, House, Progressive House and more. A project via Hardwell's Revealed Recordings in 2019 has been a discography highlight, earning the support of EDM tastemakers such as Timmy Trumpet, Mike Williams, Lumberjack and many more. 2023 would see Jadon put a firmer focus on progressive house however, becoming one of the genre's more prolific newcomers and in turn recording projects for 3rd Avenue, BCSA, Droid9 and SLC-6 Music, amongst others. Now following a well-received debut for Balkan Connection, Jadon adds Dopamine White to his resume with 'Former Times / Perfect Crime'. Beginning with 'Former Times', Jadon continues his club-effective progressive style. Full of charged energies, the Colombo resident expertly blends punchy kick drums and electric grooves with crunchy rhythms and astral sonics. Granular effects, deconstructed vocals and hopefully melodies steal the air, furthering the first movement leading into the break. A thought-provoking vocal sample takes centrestage here, bringing with it moments of anticipation and intrigue, before swirling atmospheres melt down amidst a bed of clustered drums and rumbling sonics, perfectly setting the stage for a drop of main room alchemy. The companion piece 'Perfect Crime' finds Jadon flexing a groovier side of his repertoire. Powerful beats and chunky basslines serve as the anchor for cross-cultural motifs, muted bass stabs and a strong effects narrative to intertwine for a smooth yet uplifting first act. The breakdown delivers a strong dose of controlled chaos, as orbiting effects, waves of noise and an ominous vocal sample unite, before a rush of drums and gritty textures cues an epic finale to round out the EP on a large note.
