On May 15 when the clock ticked passed 3am, the lamp turned off and the closing set began. 

A booking we had been excited about for months - Bongani took us home with a 2 hour performance, full of many moments leaving great memories imprinted in our minds.

Back in March, headlining our first event back after a year on pause, Gabriel Moraes went Under The Lamp to a sold out audience.

This particular recording comes from their most set at The Journey - Under The Lamp and gives a great insight into the kind of music you can expect when we return to Loop Project Space and Bar on July 24 for Doshpot - Under The Lamp.

The Mid Week Mix is our opportunity to share music with you in between Under The Lamp nights.

Each episode features a guest mix provided by our favourite local artists that resonate with the sound of our events. Something to break up the week and get you boogieing toward the weekend.

This week’s mix has been put together by Jove. We first saw Jove playing at Prince Bandroom back in 2019. We immediately connected with his selecting style - creating variety across the set by shifting through moods and styles in an engaging way. 

We have been following him ever since and it’s been great to see him go from strength to strength in both the booth and the studio. His productions have developed a dark, yet upbeat sound that very much resonates with us. 

We want to say a big thank you to Jove for the time put into curating this mix for the series and we hope you enjoy!

This week’s Mid Week Mix comes from a relatively new artist by the name of Dub Darko. 

Dub Darko came onto our radar after she attended Bongani - Under The Lamp back in May of this year, which inticed her to get behind the decks and record a mix that hit a similar tone, which she shared with us. 

This was music to our ears (pardon the pun). 

At The Sound Project, we want the Mid Week Mix to provide an opportunity for artists to ply their trade and for listeners to exert their emotions through the motive of music, in turn hopefully inspiring the next generation of DJs and dancers alike. 

Our Mid Week Mix series reflects the sound of our Under The Lamp events, whilst providing a platform to the DJ’s who make Melbourne’s music scene so special. As a new and inspiring artist, Dub Darko perfectly fits that bill.

For today’s Mid Week Mix, we are pleased to bring you a live recording from our most recent Under The Lamp event. 

Opening up the floor for what was an incredible night, we had Nicolette a.k.a Vena Cava treat us to an outstanding performance. 

The opening slot is by far one of the most important slots of the night in our eyes. To set the pace and build tension for the night to come. Keep the energy at bay but give people a little taste here and there, of the chunky sounds they are all so eager to hear. 

Vena Cava did just that and it’s safe to say that this was one of our favourite opening sets ever performed at Under The Lamp. 

We want to say a big thank you to Vena and we hope you all enjoy listening back to the set as a teaser of what’s coming in just 9 days time when we open up shop for Le’bruh - Under The Lamp.

It’s been a little over 2 weeks since our last Under The Lamp and to say Le’bruh blew the roof off during his headline set is nothing short of an understatement. 

Since then, we’ve received so many requests asking for the live recording, that it didn't feel right to make you wait any longer!!

Le’Bruh is a master of his art. His ability to switch seamlessly between genres, captivating the attention of his audience is an expertise that only years of execution can achieve.

There are very few artists within Melbourne’s club circuit that could rival the speed and magnitude of BINI’s recent rise in popularity, and even fewer artists as deserving. 
 
As a DJ, one of the fundamental cornerstones of the art form is the ability to not only play the music that your audience wants to hear, but to have the confidence and aptitude to play the music that you yourself want to play. This subtle, but substantial difference is the distinction between an artist who plays for the dance floor and one that controls it. 
 
BINI is a natural on the controls. 
 
In March last year when Gabriel Moraes went Under The Lamp, BINI jumped on the decks for an impromptu closing set to cover an artist that wasn’t able to make it in the last minute. As was to be expected, that performance was incredible and we are happy to announce that right now we are releasing the recording from that very set for you to relive and enjoy. 
 
Very soon, BINI returns from Europe, having boasted sets at world famous venues including Sisyphos (Berlin) and Fundbureau (Hamburg). Closer to home, BINI has supported internationals as influential as Township Rebellion and appeared at festivals including LUFT and Esoteric. 
 
On November 19, BINI joins forces with fellow powerhouse Ebony Willis for what is sure to be an incredible Under The Lamp Performance:

Brenton Chan played for us back in May 2022 when he warmed up the floor before Bongani went Under The Lamp. 

To say the floor was warm, is a massive understatement. His performance took some of our extended family completely by surprise and we still have some of those same people talking about his set to this day. For those people, we have something for you at the end of this post.

For today's Mid Week Mix, we look all the way back to May last year and to one of our favourite Under The Lamp events, Bongani - Under The Lamp.

Opening up the room, we had Jemima set the pace for the night to follow. Her sound quickly turned drinkers into dancers as she built an animated and engaged dance floor. 

We see the opening slot as one of the most important. It marks the sound of an event and creates the base layer for how the party will progress. 

We were really impressed with Jemima's performance and we recognise it as a big contributor to the night being as incredible as it was! We want to thank her for jumping on board for this one and for playing such a thoughtful set.

We’ve got a Mid Week Mix for you this week as we look all the way back to September last year and the event Le’bruh - Under The Lamp. 

Warming up before Le’bruh, our resident duo The Regulators played a set we’ve been very much looking forward to reliving!

This set features The Regulators’ usual style whilst leaning toward housier sounds which made for a lot of fun, especially given it was one half of the duo - Tawanda’s birthday. 

We had a blast that night, a great time listening back and we hope you enjoy the recording just as much as we do!

The Regulators @ Under The Lamp - 24.09.22

For this week's Mid Week Mix, we look to November last year and to our final event at Loop: Ebony Willis b2b BINI - Under The Lamp. 

On the all-important opening slot we had Tura! 

Having followed Tura for some time beforehand, we were looking forward to having her involved in Under The Lamp. But even with such anticipation, Tura well and truly exceeded our expectations! 

With a progressive and melodic style full of rhythm and emotion, Tura perfectly set the pace for the night to follow and we had a great time boogieing to her set. 

We didn't know it at the time, but this would be the last ever event at Loop before they closed the ground floor the following month. Whilst we were sad to see the venue go, we couldn't be happier with the final event we had to see it off, and Tura's opening set is a contributor to this being the case.

This week, we're happy to be releasing the first of the live recordings from our front room takeover at Revolver on Good Friday Eve the month before last. 

Good friend of The Sound Project, Tom Roberts made his debut Revolver performance and set the pace for an amazing night. He slotted right into place, filling the room with energy and making selections that nicely complimented our Revolver showcase. That night was our favourite takeover collab yet and that's a credit to Tom for his contribution.

Thank you once again to Tom for this set and thank you to everyone that joined us that night. That was something else, we had a blast!

At our most recent Day Party on Circus Rooftop, all of our TSP residents The Regulators, Ezra & Spyke went b2b2b for 3 hours to open up and kick off the day. 

Showcasing the lighter end of our sound including deep house, afro and progressive, this was a great way to start off what was an incredible Day Party! 

On July 29th, our TSP residents will be going b2b2b again to open up the day - this time for an extended 4 hour set. 

This is an intimate event. There are only 100 tickets available. On sale at 12pm next Wednesday July 5th.

The Regulators b2b Ezra b2b Spyke @ TSP Day Party (Circus Rooftop) - 22.04.23 (2pm - 5pm)

At our Day Party back in April, Doshpot well and truly blew the roof off the place!

Jumping on just after the sun went down, Doshpot built on the energy of the day and took us on a dive into the night portion of the event. 

We were really impressed with this set and we particularly liked the way that his selections expressed some of the sounds and direction of his recent production work. 

This set got us thinking we'd love to have Doshpot back soon and on the closing slot for a future Day Party. We're stoked at the fact that that is exactly what is happening this Saturday. 

For everyone that has a ticket, we look forward to partying with you all day before enjoying another performance from Doshpot.

Today, we look back to our April Day Party on Circus Rooftop and to the incredible set delivered by Vena Cava. 

Jumping on after our TSP resident b2b2b and taking us through sun set, Vena Cava treated us to a set that nicely weaved through different moods of quality progressive house. 

We really enjoyed this set and it was a great way to move from the day into the night time portion of our event. We want to thank Vena Cava for being involved and for everything she does to support us. Big love from all of us.

This week we look back to April and to our first Day Party on Circus Rooftop. 

Taking on the closing slot was none other than Whitefoxx. 

As the duo that combines Adam Wicks and Brenton Chan, Whitefoxx is an act that we were very excited to have involved and been planning for quite some time. 

Our expectations were high, but it's safe to say that they were exceeded by this performance. 

Taking over from Doshpot, Whitefoxx treated us to a 2 hour set that closed out the night and left all of us wanting more. 

Some of our favourite closing sets have struck the balance between including engaging tracks that keep a warn out crowd involved, and playing straight up dirty tunes that progress the night toward the finish. Whitefoxx struck this balance very nicely and we thoroughly enjoyed having them involved. 

We want to say a big thank you to both Adam & Brenton, and we hope you enjoy listening back to their set as much as we have.

Closing our stage showcase in the early hours of the morning was a set provided by TSP resident Ezra. His performance kept the crowd actively involved right to the end and left us all wanting more.

Picture this.. 

It’s the early hours of the morning. 
You’re in Revolver, stuck, held captive by an onslaught of great tunes. 
There’s no way out and your only choice is to embrace it - we’ve all been there. 

Two Melbourne heavy weights, going b2b for 3 hours straight, in a way you haven’t quite heard from them before, the crowd eating from the palm of their hands. 

The guilty artists - Luke Vecchio and Le’bruh. 

And so there, over a year and a half ago, the idea for Luke Vecchio b2b Le’bruh - Under The Lamp was born. 

As luck would have it, last week Luke came across the recording from that very night at Revs and the pair of them wanted it to be a gift to say thank you to all the people who supported our recent cancelled event - something to tie us all over until the real thing.

To coincide with this, for many months we’ve been planning to start a SoundCloud page, featuring the sounds and sets you’ll experience at Under The Lamp. So what better way to kick things off!  

Once again, a massive thank you to everyone for their ongoing support and to the boys for providing us with a little taste of what can be expected when the clubs open, the lamp turns on and Luke Vecchio & Le’bruh present their craft.

Today’s Mid Week Mix is extra special as it signals the start of a series of guest mixes supplied by artists a little closer to home.

The MWM concept was created to provide an easy to access source of music for all of us, who’s regular dance floor inspiration is no longer so easy to access!

Leah Marie is a face you’ll likely recognise from the dance floor, but has recently turned her attention (and talent) to the other side of the decks.

With a sound covering deep/afro/progressive house and melodic techno, Leah’s mixes encapsulate everything we miss hearing at the city’s late night venues.

This melodic guest mix is described by Leah as “coming from the heart” and it includes tracks from her favourite artists and labels including Einmusika Recordings.

Mid Week Mix #5 - Leah Marie (Guest Mix - Vol. 1)

t’s often hard to describe to people what makes Melbourne’s underground  music culture so special. Why groups of people from different backgrounds spend hours and hours dancing away in fields or nightclubs to music and artists they may have never heard of before. 

But for those who know, they’ll understand its really just as much about the people as it ever is the music.

Denis is an easy tool to use to get those people to understand. 

Whether he’s behind the decks or in front of them,  kicking back on the sofa or kicking up dust on the dance floor - if Denis is present, you’re guaranteed a good time. 

But then there’s his music. For us, DK is the go-to closer. His deep and dirty sound is perfect for a late night set. He brings energy to our dancing boots when we feel we have nothing left. Having played at bush doof’s such as Esoteric and Wild People, graced some of Melbournes best known nightclubs and of course being the co-founder of the incredible Who Loves events, Denis really is, the man for your moment.

For this guest mix, we recommend you put your tools down, turn the volume up  and escape to festival season.
