🕷TALEA JACTA (PT)
Talea Jacta are a duo from porto with João Pais Filipe (HHY & The Makumbas, Burnt Friedman, CZN) on percussion and Pedro Pestana (10 000 Russos, Tren Go! Soundsystem) on guitar. Their music joins Pais' ethno-techno polyrhythms to Pestana's outer space guitars in long, circular and repetitive tracks.

🕷 JOÃO PAIS FILIPE (PT)
João Pais Filipe (b. 1980) is a drummer/percussionist and sound sculptor from Porto. His current musical projects include his own Solo percussion project, Burnt Friedman & João Pais Filipe, CZN (with valentina Magaletti) and HHY & the Macumbas.
In addition to his musical journey, João Pais Filipe develops Gong Making, Cymbal Smithing and other metal percussion instruments, through which he explores the acoustic properties of these objects as their potential sculptural dimension and imagery. 

🕷 TREN GO! SOUNDSYSTEM (PT)
Tren Go! Sound System is a guitar, loop and fx driven one-man-band riding on feedbacks since 2006. 
Pedro Pestana (10 000 Russos and Talea Jacta) is the steel driving man behind this locomotive that crosses the most varied landscapes, blues, dub, shoegaze, techno, ambient, noise or world music.

This is the last episode of the second part of the season, which explores several cultural movements that emerged during the 70s and revolutionized various music traditions by incorporating new rhythms, influences, and instrumentation.

In western Algeria, the modernization of Raï was initiated by artists such as Bellemou, Groupe el Azhar and Les Frères Zergui during the first years of Algerian independence, who introduced the trumpet, accordion, and electric guitars to the Bedoui tradition, leading to a musical genre that transcended generations.

This episode focuses on the journey of these pioneers between the traditional gasba and the era of synthesizers and drum machines. One hour of Modern Raï on dusty vinyl records.

Founder of the Toronto-based Marionette label, Iraqi born Ali Safi, relies on intuition to form a dialogue bridging the disparate worlds that inspire a growing catalogue of oddball releases. Under his grimwig moniker, he carefully selects and blends records into seamless mixes suited for bean bag ambient nights all the way to the smokey afterhours.

Call of Night

this mix is a tribute to overdub- a greek fanzine from the late 90’s  and early 00’s. 
Just before Internet was fully commercialised, the creatures of the underground scene could find it in specific comic, record and book stores and dig into the local and international experimentations of the time.  

All tracks come from artists that are briefly or more thoroughly mentioned on different issues of overdub. Christos Karras,  the music aficionado and editor in chief of the fanzine, initially had to send via post, introduction letters  to artists he admired, and receive tracks on cd or tape, months later, for a music compilation that he curated for every issue. Later on, email took over, Napster took over, and gradually overdub lost its precious meaning…Hopefully for some more than a few, independent music still matters. Special thanks to Aggelos Baltas for revealing to me this hidden gem.
