Sad news here in Seattle. On the anniversary of the death of two of our own, Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and, of course, Kurt Cobain, we’ve learned of the passing of another local legend, singer Shawn Smith who died yesterday at the age of 53. Born across the state in Spokane, he known for his work as the singer in the bands Brad, Satchel, Pigeonhed and also as an amazing solo artist. KEXP will celebrate his life for days to come, but for now, here's Shawn from the last time we saw him. As usual, he was giving something of himself to comfort others. This is him performing “Wrapped in a Memory” as part of our Death and Music event last fall. Thank you for making our lives better Shawn.
