Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, the seven piece “Reggae / Rap / Rock” fusion, Shrub, has been rapidly gaining momentum and building a solid national fan base since being voted by readers as High Times Magazine’s Unsigned Band of the Month in September of 2010.

Recently, Shrub released their first full length album, Highceratops, which debuted in the Top 10 on the iTunes Reggae Charts. The album features guest appearances by C-Money from Slightly Stoopid, Dubmatix, and Kimberly Freeman from One-Eyed Doll.

The band garners comparisons to artists like: Sublime, The Dirty Heads, Atmosphere, Gym Class Heroes, and G. Love, but Shrub maintains an innately unique and raw sound all their own. With the addition of new guitar player, Kevin Oliver, former member of the world’s funkiest band, Parliament/Funkadelic (George Clinton), Shrub’s sound has now quickly become full-grown.

Born in the smoky lab behind laptop cables 🔌 and recycled materials ♻️, it finds beauty in the broken and the discarded. These elements are transformed into instruments or glitches, recreating those unsettling moments of reality—but with depth, something almost beautiful, if not for the ripple on the surface that reveals the fragility of human existence 🌊.

The majority of the album is created using a unique technique where we literally blend three instruments in layers to form a sound that bridges the voices of a harmonica 🎸 and a dobro 🎻. At times, you’ll think you hear the dobro, but it shifts into the harmonica; other times, the dobro seems to merge with the voice 🎤. This shifting is our way of exploring the fluid, ever-changing nature of perception. Reality is never static; anything can change in an instant ⏳.

“Heart – Reggae Infused” by The Jamaica Band vs The OUTpsiDER is part of the Reggae Infused anthology series, where The Jamaica Band reinterprets electronic and experimental projects by The OUTpsiDER through Jamaican rhythms. This release takes the Heart project’s electronic and avant-garde soundscapes and reshapes them with reggae grooves, creating a hybrid soundscape that bridges modern EDM textures with reggae’s soulful pulse.
