2020’s “Little Light” EP saw Gus Carrington playing, recording and mixing all parts involved through his macbook, but the “(Petunias)” album kicks The Stupid Reasons up several notches sonically thanks to Young Avenue Sound, the very studio that inspired title track. When unable to take off time from work to record bass at the studio for Memphis' Blvck Hippie, then-Zoo employee Gus complained to his co-worker (giraffe keeper) who exclaimed "You must feel like a petunia in an onion patch!" An original song from Gus soon followed, and then was recorded at the very studio he was unable to experience.

Their long-awaited debut album (Petunias) conceptually tackles both “feeling like a petunia in an onion patch” as well as life’s full circle moments.

Tracked at Easley McCain Recording (White Stripes, Sonic Youth), "Hot Springs" is a standout indie anthem to being strung out on love and getting exactly what you bargained for. Host of "The Radio Memphis Live Music Hour" Tundrea Lyons-Brock describes the song as "a breath of fresh air." Inspired by a night of listening to Frank Sinatra records and drinking scotch, "Hot Springs" marries classic story-telling with post-punk guitar tones, synthesizer solos and even just a hint of hip-hop production.
