For me, the essence of the composition is quite simple and clear: a reflection on the relationship between society and power. Much more interesting is the musical palette, which reveals the true meaning.

There are a lot of references to different artists hidden in the track. First up is Jacoby Shaddix vocals from Papa Roach's track Dead Cell. The intro references the track The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die. The guitar break is ungodly stolen from NIN - Closer. There are also references to the songs RATM - Know Your Enemy, The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up.

Basically, if you hear the quotes in the right places, the composition will play with certain colors for you.

Overall, I was just making the kind of music that I myself would be interested in hearing. So don't call me a douche, but I would love it if you would check out such a construct too.

The Control

When I was three years old, I first heard a word that I did not fully understand. I don't remember exactly where or how I heard it, but at the time it didn't seem all that frightening. I also associated it with fun, with films, music, games. As I got older, I realised that it was a synonym for "horror".  

The word is "WAR". 

For the last few years I have been very worried and searching for the strength to realise what is happening now. So I just decided to write a song in which I put all the emotions that were mixed up in my head. I went back to the events of my childhood and redefined their meaning for myself. 

Fight Fire With Fire is a song about the second Chechen war, how I perceived it and what it was really like. It's a very personal song for me, with a lot of important literary and musical references to a work that had a huge impact on me. I hope I was able to convey all the fucked up shit that's going on in my soul.

FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE

My name is Mikita Kryvenka, and I'm a session musician from Eastern Europe. As I accumulated ideas while working with other artists, I decided to embark on creating my very own project where I can bring to life my most outrageous concepts. Inspired by The Prodigy, NIN, and Massive Attack, I realized that there is nothing better than naming this project after my beloved synthesizer (Moog SUBSEQUENT) and hardly experimenting with various genres of electronic music.

The main genre of The Subsequent is cyberpunk. Now, mind you, this concept of a musical genre may be alien to some, but trust me when I say it encapsulates the very core of this audio rebellion.
