Born in Jakarta, in the 80’s @dea-barandana grew up with the sound of Indonesian city pop and new wave. Nowadays he lives in Bali, where he's a resident DJ at Potatohead Beach Club. We had a pleasure to have Dea here in 2019 for NYE playing at Bar da Praia. 

Described by Gilles Peterson as ‘The best DJ I’ve heard in 10 years’, Dea recorded a mixtape for us playing some rare world songs.

This is the music I want to listen to when vibes are high, and I'm surrounded by ones I love. I tried to create an arc much like the setting sun, mimicking the shifting moods we experience as day turns to night. This mix is filled with tunes that are near and dear to my heart.
Matias is a DJ with a deep bag and a deep connection to music. Growing up immersed with the sounds of a wide variety of genres and digging for the right stuff was his go-to. From making punk rock mixtapes in highschool in the early 90s, deep diving into all things jazz, and finding rare swamp boogie bangers - he's put in some serious time.

Mix of the Week #449: Giorgio Lopez - Radio Lido Florida vol. 2

Danish music connoisseur Mike Salta is a man of many talents. Whether he’s acting as musician, DJ, record producer, radio broadcaster, remixer or composer, Mike Salta always strives to create musical magic. Operating in a sphere where time and genre is nothing and vibe is everything, and with 35+ years of experience from performances and entrepreneurship all over the world, Salta has released records on an array of highly regarded labels including NuNorthern Soul, Music For Dreams, Café Del Mar and Claremont 56. Keep a look out for Mike Salta's 12" remix of 'City Lights' by Flashbaxx which is due out on NuNorthern Soul this spring. He also has a single called 'Espalmador' coming out on Music For Dreams in March/April and a full length album due for release in the summer.

Mike Salta has delivered an outstanding mix for the series. Recorded in 2022, his thoughtful selections are a perfect balance of old and new. There’s no shortage of gold on here, such as Suso Saiz' ambient masterpiece ‘Un Humbro Oscuro’. Back in 2016 Music From Memory licensed and made this track available on both vinyl and digital formats for the first time. Quincy Jones smooth jazz-funk classic 'Velas', off his 1981 three-times Grammy Award winning LP The Dude. Philippe Royan’s blissed-out ‘Cap Malheureux‘, the instrumental B-side of a super-rare 7” from 1990. Absolutely gorgeous record. As for some of the newer material represented here, there's Simon Mills' brilliantly emotive track 'Coco', a digital/Bandcamp exclusive from 2020 which I'm hoping will get a physical release at some point. Closing the mix is Pablo Color's lovely guitar noodle 'El Abrazor' from his latest (at time of writing) LP Hora Azul, released in 2021. The Sunrise Social - Plastic Fantastic

The Sunrise Social is delighted to bring you a wonderful LP mix from Andy Pye, based in Leeds, UK. 
In addition to running the Balearic Social Recordings imprint and hosting his weekly Balearic Social radio show on Music For Dreams, Andy also guests on the bi-monthly radio show Sounds In Waves on Alto Radio, and the monthly radio show Paradise Social on 1BTN.FM.

This is Andy's second mix for the series, and as you'd come to expect, he delivers a simply masterful selection here, no obvious records and 100% vinyl. If I may briefly mention a few, 'Window' by Nobuyoshi Ino, taken from the 1981 LP Mountain is a fine example of Japanese jazz-fusion and ambient music. Greg Foat's 'After The Storm', a lovely slice of contemporary jazztronica (as one Discogs reviewer perfectly described it) from his 2020 double album Symphonie Pacifique. Without a doubt Foat's most accomplished release to date. Closing the mix, and pitched way down (to confuse all you Shazam'er's out there) is the dreamy end-of-night jam 'Find It In Your Eyes' by The System. Supposedly an unreleased track from 1983, Music From Memory licensed and released this gem of a record in 2016.

@TobyTobias has been a long standing figure in the London scene for the last 20 years. A true music lover who can bring pretty much anything to the party. You may recognise him for his house cuts on labels like Rekids, ESP Institute, Delusions of Grandeur, International Feel, Odori, Quintessentials, Futureboogie to name a few - as well as his own imprints London Housing Trust and Voice Notes.  He also plays under the alias Alphonse and has been one of the main protagonists of the recent breaks revival. You can find him playing all over the world as well as putting mixes out for the likes of Boiler Room, NTS, Balamii , Phonica, Mutant Radio , Narr and even Unknown FM back in the early noughties.

Was a pleasure to be asked by Danny to do this mix and join in with the crew - I'd been meaning to do a Dub Bleeps and Oddities mix part 2 for a while - and Dannys request came in when I was getting ready so it seemed right - so that it was you have essentially - but less of the oddities and more of a gentle build up to the seeds of a night out ..
