Dub Techno

Theta State is the experimental Deep Techno and Ambient project of Trance producer Ewan McLaughlin. 

Ewan discovered his taste for electronic music 6 years ago, starting out with an ear for Dubstep and drum and bass. This taste evolved throughout the years, when in 2013 Ewan found his home in the melodic, euphoric world of Trance music after hearing Eminence’s guest mix on The Going Quantum podcast. From here he discovered more artists such as Andy Blueman and Sneijder, soon becoming inspired to take up production himself. By 2015, Ewan had made substantial progress with production skills, learning new techniques at any opportunity available. 

However the Trance scene started to become too repetitive and Ewan was eager to explore the underground styles, soon discovering psychedelic and techno. Here in the underground, he was once again inspired by the originality of fresh new sounds, ranging from Psytrance to Ambient Techno.  Influenced by artists such as Klartraum, Seibzehn and Brock Van Wey, Ewan decided to combine these new atmospheric psychedelic sounds of PsyAmbient with the more hypnotic and rhythmic elements of techno, deep house and his well-established Trance style. 

Since starting his university in Leeds, Ewan has become involved with a promising DJ team, OFF-TEMPO under his new Deep Techno alias Theta State. 


The name Theta State was inspired by theta frequency, 4-7.5Hz and  is commonly associated with deep meditation and REM dream state.
