Repost of a recent mix that was recorded live on Saturday 10th July 2021 on Club Sounds Live

Had just bought quite a few tracks the previous day and fancied putting a mix together. An unplanned journey through some lovely electronic textures, house and dub-techno, which is one of my favourite genres to get lost in.

4 tracks from the great Delano Smith on here. Thanks to Andy Green and Adrian Rennie, as Delano is a tremendous Artist that I wasn't aware of before I heard Andy Green play his tracks on Verdant Sessions, and Adrian Rennie (Forward Memory) play one recently on his CSL Livestream. Finally had to explore :)

Couple of tracks from Aril Brikha also, and again thanks to Forward Memory for introducing me to his sounds.

Deep Excavations (Mix)

A 4-hour extravaganza. From the downtempo sounds of 90s Photek, to Halo Varga's classic "Future!", with some Chiapet, Tick Tock, Petrichor, Dubrovnik(UK) and Birds ov Paradise thrown down for good measure. Tracks spanning the last 20 years or so. 

During lockdown I became part of a fantastic Facebook group called Club Sounds Live, founded by Donald Mackenzie (Dodo). The group has grown from strength to strength with the aim of bringing quality live streams from loads of quality Djs from around the UK, and being an inclusive community for all things electronic. 

Post lockdown the group still continues with 400+ members and a fortnightly live stream. 

I've been honoured to play a number of live streams for CSL, most recently with the excellent Forward Memory.

This recording was from my first in Feb 21. 

As with all my mixes in the last 10 years+, was recorded on 2s 1210s, with a DJM 800. A mix of Traktor with timecode vinyl and vinyl tracks. "The beauty of the setup" :) 

I have a TL somewhere but can't find it for now but happy to ID anything.

Club Sounds Live (Live Stream) Recording - Feb 21

I must have more than 30 tracks by Lonerist in my collection, and I've been wanting to put together a mix solely with Lonerist tracks for a while, so here it is. Tried to tell a story as Lonerist produces a diverse range of electronic sounds, from slower dubby, dreamy vibes to peak time dance floor fillers. 

The mix starts around 115 bpm and finishes around 125 bpm.

Lonerist is a superb Dj & Producer from Greenock, Scotland and has been making music and Djing for over 30 years. Lonerist's sound is anywhere in the range of deep house, techno, dub techno & electro and is inspired by late 80s & 90s electronic music.

Lonerist works under a few different monikers, making ambient dub, deep house, techno, synth wave, Italo disco and more.

Lonerist (Focus Mix)

Recorded at the launch of our new night TRACE at Brunswick Cellars, Glasgow on Friday 5th April 2024.

Brunswick Cellars has been recently refurbished and under new management. The quality of this intimate venue has to be seen to be appreciated. The top class sound system has been Eq'ed to perfection for the surroundings and as well as the obvious dancefloor you can also relax in the many areas of booth seating and enjoy the visuals and lush sub-bass. 

At Trace we are planning to take full advantage of all this venue has to offer with quality visuals and some of the deepest house music around. Music policy isn't rigid but we'll be playing around house, balearic, broken beat and techno, most likely sub 125bpm. 

We'll be celebrating the latest releases with one foot in the past. 

Resident Chris Curtis will be joined by local guest talent from around Glasgow and beyond on the 1st Friday of the month. 

For the launch Dave Stark & Chris Curtis gave us a showdown of the deepest cuts.

TRACE - August 2024 with residents (Chris Curtis & Dave Stark)

We drop in just at the start of Chris Stark's set around 2 hours into the night at September's TRACE at Brunswick Cellars Glasgow. 

Chris Stark is another one of our favourite Djs. His sets are equal parts unpredictable and measured. A confident selector with a broad range of electronic music in his armoury. No big ego here. Just pure dancefloor action that gets everyone smiling. 

Listening back to Chris' recent set, it has flavours of what you might hear played by the likes of Optimo, Horse Meat Disco or at an ALFOS night. We find it hard to compare Chris' sound to anyone in particular though, and that's what makes Chris' sets even more special. 

Curtis closes out with a few tracks from around 2:10, with our man Stark selecting the final track of the night. Can't wait for Mr Stark to return to TRACE.

TRACE - September 2024 with Chris Stark & Chris Curtis

On the first Friday in October TRACE welcomed Dub Techno connoisseur Andy Green of Verdant Recordings to Brunswick Cellars.

Here is the full 5 hour set, taking you through the gears. 

This wasn't your usual warm up/ guest Dj scenario, with Andy and Chris going back to back on 3 tracks each for a good few hours. 

Which hours who knows, but it's a quality journey from start to finish.

A deep excursion. From the beauty of Ski Mask's Vli, to the ambient horror of Kyle Bobby Dunn's from Over to Wendover, with plenty of deep house & techno in between. 

Begins around 111bpm and ends somewhere around 130bpm.

Mixed on 2x 1210s with timecode vinyl through Traktor, switched between timecodes and vinyl throughout, so there is a bit of compression on the final mix to help keep things level.

Night Shift (Mix)

Been going through some old tapes and CDs during lockdown and ripping all the good stuff. I found this mix I put together in December 2004 when I was playing at a fair few bars and clubs in Aberdeen. Was playing at my friend Chris Knox's Metropolis night around that time, and the last 20 minutes or so capture a good few records I would have been rinsing regularly. 

I wanted to put a mix together that I could use for self promotion at the time, pass around bars and clubs, and also put something together that captured the sound I love so much. Remember taking quite a long time over the tracks and order.

I recorded the mix in 2 parts, the first being a slower tempo house mix, and the 2nd being a bit more savage. Had a clip from a recent mix I had played on Northsound 1 that I really wanted to put in between the parts as a bridge. 

Once the mix was complete a friend Mike Duguid mastered it, added the clip in the middle with some cool radio wave feedback, and track indented it so you could properly skip through the CD like an album. 

I'd done loads of tapes previously but wanted to make  proper job of the CD.

One of the best mixes I think i've recorded yet. Loads of quality house and techno. E.B.E, Jersey Street, Pepe Bradock, Laurent Garnier, Technasia. All the good stuff :)

Curtis - (Vinyl) House & Techno Mix From the Archive - December 2004

I would say I’m from the school of house, with an introduction to clubbing in Glasgow from around 1997 at nights like Pressure at the Arches, Relief at Alaska and the famed Harri &amp; Domenic regulars at the Sub Club. 

Labels like Paper Recordings, Glasgow Underground and Soma Records really moulded my love of house/techno and almost 25 years Djing, I feel that often that sound still remains in a lot of my sets, even if disguised as disco or something a little more leftfield. With a love of synth, well produced percussion and anything that can lock you in a groove I’m not too fussy about genre.

Spending many years in Aberdeen led to me taking residency along with Chris Knox at the regular Metropolis nights, which in addition to the regular residents nights saw me warm the house for guests such as Dave Clarke, Surgeon, FC Kahuna, Justin Robertson, Felix Da Housecat, Miss Kitten, Billy Nasty and Claude Young. Working though many bar residencies has also provided a platform for more experimental sets, with a more downtempo sound.

Currently producing dreamy, hypnotic, blissed out electronic music under my Theta Waves moniker.

I'm currently one of the residents of the subSine | Sessions, and present the monthly subSine | Sessions show on Glasgow's own Buena Vida Radio. 

I like to keep things moving and I’m a fan of contrast, believing that every set should tell a story, not necessarily have beginning, middle and end but be the type of story that you would want to read again.
