In the recent emergence of this mysterious alias, Hattori Hanzō has changed a lot of things in the techno scene. However one thing that's remained consistent is how startlingly sophisticated his productions are.

The opener 'Genetic Drift' embraces his taste for radical non-Western bells welded onto cutting-edge club music polyrhythms. Soaking in spooky atmospheres, perfect for the darkest and sweatiest of dance floors. The highly charged energy on 'Natural Selection' fuels steady build-ups and syncopated toms, with a menacing noise stab out amid the controlled chaos. 'Dogmatic' attempts to lure you into shadowy, narrow spaces beckoned by an evil laugh sample beneath while being attacked from all directions by spaceships.  'Phenotypic Variation' is a compelling package of hypnotic drone, ascending zaps and spiralling synths. Closing the release with 'Moravian Scientist' clad in snaking synth lines and warped textures distilled into the purest form of psychedelic techno.

After Deano and Faretrade’s inaugural release on the Knowledge Imprint DFT sublabel comes a remix pack of those first collaborative tracks. Following the sonic palette of the originals, the artists have enlisted some of their favourite young producers to contribute their interpretations. On the A-Side you’ll find Border One and Quelza, while on the B-Side you’ll find CONCEPTUAL and D-Leria, all of whom put their idiosyncratic touches into the package, guiding the listener through everything from driving and bright to warm and hypnotic. The third Realm Of Consciousness compilation on Tale Of Us’ Afterlife Recordings is the label’s most complete statement so far.

The four-vinyl opus opens with Tale Of Us’ now anthemic ‘Nova’, a high-impact and well-loved staple of their sets this year. Agents Of Time continue with the percussive rattle of ‘Paradigm’, before the first released collaboration between luminaries Recondite and Henrik Schwarz shines with understated melody.

Amongst Mind Against’s eerie masterpiece ‘Portal’ and impressive first appearances on Afterlife from Scuba (as SCB) and Steve Rachmad (as Sterac) are ethereal contributions from Fideles, Ovend and Øostil. UK techno veteran Edit Select channels the darker, hypnotic spirit of Afterlife with ‘Phase In’, setting up the sprawling, 14-minute epic from Luigi Tozzi and Antonio Ruscito.

To begin the compilation’s fourth disc, Konstantin Sibold & Kosme’s ‘Cyclone’ lifts the tone, leading into a more introspective sound from Hunter/Game on ‘Changing Weather’. Upcoming German talent Kevin De Vries follows with his infectious cut ‘Mágoa’ and Tone Depth ends the odyssey in mesmerising style with ‘Ibn Sina’.
