Formerly active as one half of Cassegrain and now solely under his own name, Hüseyin Evirgen alias Magna Pia has been trading out some of the finest hypnotising floor material on the market for the past decade. Responsible for some key platters on the likes of Soma, Arcing Seas and Counterchange, the Berlin-based producer eases us in his intricately structured headspace, lithely moving at the confluence of post-industrial dubs, central Asian folk and heavy-duty brutalism. Utopia Society presents: Utopia Tapes, a collection of podcasts from the most relevant artists who have left their mark on our project. In our first edition we have S3RN4.

S3RN4 is a young artist from Madrid passionate about techno with a wide variety of sounds perfect for the dancefloor. He also has a label called Unknown Archives where the music is released anonymously in order not to prejudge the music by a name.

Utopia Tapes 21 | S3RN4

Denise Rabe´s experience in the Berlin techno scene as a booker, radio host, promoter and dj since she relocated to German capital drawn by the possibility of a life in music, is reflected in the pragmatic, grounded artist she became and the unique, original voice she’s developed as a producer.

Her approach and work ethic can be seen expressed on every release she’s done under her label, Rabe, where her music is matched with an equal amount of care, thought and work, in the vessels that contain it, within a coherent aesthetic and vision that informs music, artwork and presentation equally.

This has allowed her to recruit the artist who´s work resonates with her sensibility and can be heard in the remixes Rrose, Shxcxchcxsh, Headless Horseman, among others, have done for her releases on her and other labels.

Imprints such as Mutewax, who released her first 12’’ in 2015, ARTS where she quickly became one of the label´s staples and Stroboscopic Artifacts where she published ‘’Manifesto’’ in 2019, are clear reference points that describe her career and its development. 

Rabe’s particular inclination to sparse industrial soundscapes, gothic aesthetics, driven grooves under hooks that hypnotize as much as they distinguish, have propelled her 10 year career across stages all over the US, Asia and Europe, as well as the clubs that represent the apex of techno world wide such as Berghain and Tresor.

Having been a key player in the Dutch music scene since the late ‘80s, Serge is a force to be reckoned with. When Serge isn’t DJing, he’s scouting for electronic gems to showcase on his pioneer and subgenre-extensive label, Clone Records which has a globally renowned physical store in Rotterdam. His knack for A&R can be heard throughout his cutting-edge sets which not only take you on a journey from one belter to the next but also across the musical spectrum.

This vinyl Techno selection is powerful and packed with punchy basslines and syncopated synths to keep you grooving throughout. Serge’s skill in blending classic with modern allows for a sonic treat.
