My guest today is Scott Michael Smith a Grammy nominated Mixer, Producer, and musician based in Los Angeles working largely in music for the screen. Scott got his start at the legendary Village Recording studio in Los Angeles where he became a staff engineer, working with artists like John Mayer, Keith Emerson, Colbie Caillat, Carole King, Fink and many others. He spent countless hours in the studio learning from guys like Ed Cherney, John Alagia, and T-Bone Burnett while honing his own skills as an Engineer/Producer.&nbsp; For over a decade Scott has been one of Hollywood's most in-demand film music mixers. Recording and Mixing scores for projects like The Revenant, The Handmaid's Tale, It Chapter 2, Minions, The Invisible Man, and many more. Recently Scott completed work on Mank, the new David Fincher period piece featuring the music of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails, the entire score was done in isolation during the pandemic.&nbsp; Scott is known for his ability to bridge the gap between modern film scoring and record production, helping to create a sound that serves what's happening on screen while creating an immersive and rewarding listening experience at the same time. My guest today is Justin Perkins a mastering engineer based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin who has worked on remastering projects for The Replacements, En Vogue, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and mastering projects for Michael Franti &amp;&nbsp; Spearhead, Tommy Stinson, The Gaslight Anthem, Smoking Popes,&nbsp; Anberlin, Screeching Weasel, The Mr. T Experience, and thousands of other independent bands and artists around the world.&nbsp; Before transitioning to mastering full-time he also spent time at Butch Vig’s Smart Studios in Madison Wisconsin recording and mixing a&nbsp; number of projects, and has been working full-time in the audio field for nearly 20 years. My guest today is Dorian Heartsong an American composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Los Angeles, California. As an artist, Heartsong is currently playing bass for Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Evening.&nbsp; He is also well known for his Bass work in Powerman 5000 from inception in 1990 until late 2001. Constant touring with bands such as Black Sabbath, Metallica, Kiss, Pantera, and Primus, helped elevate Powerman 5000's album "Tonight The Stars Revolt" to platinum status and landed songs in movie soundtracks including, Zoolander, Scream 3, and Evolution. Dorian has also performed and recorded with other artists and producers including Everlast, Vinnie Moore, Ruby Friedman Orchestra, The Flying Tigers, Dan Rockett, Stevie Salas, Michael Beinhorn, Lior Goldenberg, Sylvia Massey, Joe Barrisi, and Terry Date. He and Stevie Salas scored the indie movie "Live Free or Die" which won Top Jury prize at SXSW film festival in 2006. Was the lead singer of Honeyman, and was widely considered one of the best Birmingham bands of the late 90’s.&nbsp; He went solo and recorded his debut album with producer Tchad Blake at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studio with Jerry Marotta on drums. He released 4 studio albums including his latest album A Thousand Winters. And Worked with producer Ian Grimble and Thomas Johansen. Many of his songs have been covered by international artists in Italy, France, Norway and Asia.&nbsp; He has opened for Lionel Richie. Joe Cocker. Arcade Fire. Jackson Browne. The Script. The Chicks. Heather Nova and many others. And many of his songs have gotten radio play in Norway. In his 20s he Developed Tinnitus and has had chronic tinnitus ever since. My guest today is Mike Fahey an engineer, mixer, and producer from the great state of Maine. Michael went to college for mechanical engineering at the University Of Maine before switching over to an audio engineering degree at The New England School Of Communications (NESCOM). My first instrument was the trumpet in my elementary school band and he picked up the guitar at 11.&nbsp; In 2012, He landed an internship at Sputnik Sound after Vance Powell came to speak at NESCOM earlier that year about mixing for The Raconteurs' Consolers of the Lonely. He moved to Nashville that fall and after two months of interning was hired by Mitch Dane to be his assistant engineer. During that time, Sputnik moved to a new building in Berry Hill where he helped with construction for 7 months renovating the studio. In late 2014 Vance hired Michael as his assistant engineer and he has been with him ever since. My guest today is Jonathan Haidle,&nbsp;trained in both piano performance and composition, with an minor in painting. Jonathan likes to bring a wide range of artistic influences to his music. &nbsp;After getting a masters in Education, he founded Forte Music School - where 180+ students receive private lessons with focus on recording/arranging pieces they learn. &nbsp; I’ve known Jonathan for a while and have also been aware that he loves using Ableton Live and the Push controller. But recently I saw some of his live performance videos on Youtube and thought it would be awesome to have him on the show to talk about using the push controller and Live as both a composition tool and performance DAW. Jonathan says he has also been drawing some of his inspiration for composition from watching TV lately, particularly Project Runway. RSR162 - Jonathan Haidle - Drawing Inspiration From The Fashion Industry To Create Music With Ableton Live.

My guest today is Wyn Davis and I am going to read his bio to you know because it tells his story well: I started playing guitar when I was 10. I grew up in Southern California and was influenced by all the music that was created here and in Northern California. Beachboys, Doors, Canned Heat, Spirit, Jefferson Airplane, Frank Zappa, all of it. I think the releases of 1967-1968, the folk music, the rock music, the psychedelic music, the British invasion, all of it was the foundation of my ear. I played in bands and in 1974 moved to New York and performed throughout the North East at over 200 colleges and universities. In 1981 I opened my studio in Redondo Beach, California and named it Total Access after a backstage pass I’d been given a few weeks earlier by George Massenburg when he was mixing FOH for Earth Wind and Fire. I imagined I’d be able to record my own music but quickly found out that keeping a studio open required clients. By word of mouth, the studio gained a reputation as a place where young bands could record in professionally designed space and come away with competitive results.&nbsp; Thanks to our sponsors!
