THE TRAPS are a London based four piece. They consist of brothers Jamie Berry (vox / guitar) and Nick Berry (bass / vox) as well as James Minhas (guitar) and Daniel Webb (drums), and have done so since 2011.

London four piece, The Traps, will be releasing their second album, 'Wild Escape', on May 6th 2016 on independent label Speech Fewapy Recordings and Label Fandango.
The album will be released digitally through itunes, spotify, amazon and also on limited release 12” vinyl through The Traps website.

Following on from its predecessor, 'Calypso', released in September 2013, 'Wild Escape' cuts a more suave, sophisticated musical figure. A record of expansive sound and ambition, its an explosion of melody that signifies a real step-on in the band's abilities.    Littered with the infectious hooks and ethereal harmonies, that have been in evidence in all of the band's recent releases,  'Wild Escape' marks an exciting new dawn for The Traps in 2016.

Recorded across the summer of 2015 by the multi-instrumentalist, multi-faceted Rob Jones - desk duties for 'Calypso' also - at Giant Wafer studios in North Wales, 'Wild Escape' marks the first release for The Traps since their 'Club Fandango' single 'September Storm' back in Early 2015. Previous 'Club Fandango' double A-side release 'Imposter/My Grip' saw the band play a sell out show at prestigious London venue, The Lexington.

A successfully funded Kickstarter campaign securing the vinyl release of the record has shown the appeal of the band's sound, and the audience reached and won over by 'Calypso'. With live dates planned for early 2016 to mark the release of 'Wild Escape' be sure to catch them wherever you can.

Calypso’ is the first official release from The Traps on their own Birmingham based indie label Speech Fewapy Records. Combining upbeat tempos, an anthemic synth based beat, and a hooky guitar motif that will keep any indie dancefloor buzzing alongside a very cool vocal.

The influence behind the track and indeed their debut album is the character Calypso from Homer’s Odyssey poem who captures Homer by leading his ship ashore. 

Lead singer Jamie explains “I've always been fascinated by the character of Calypso in the Odyssey. I think it is because her story isn't really dwelt upon, but she is a tragic and flawed character denied what she desires most and they are always the most interesting. The fact that she is rarely given a voice makes her all the more intriguing and once 
I'd decided to write about her in this song, the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of her story guiding and influencing all the music and lyrics on the record”.

From lock-up to lock down. From Birmingham to New York City. From tiny toilet venues to vast fortress festivals. Over ten years in the making. We crack open the vault, dust off the lost tapes and present our prequel album, ‘Echoes’. 
 
‘Echoes’, was forged deep under the industrial red brick train arches of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. In our prized neon soaked band lock-up - over-crammed with instruments, games consoles and band detritus. Night after night, fuelled by a mission to make the best songs we possibly could, we would hole up and piece together these eleven songs and more. 
 
In between writing, gigging and running our own label and club nights, we lived together in our suburban band HQ, on the edge of Hobbit ridden Moseley Bog. Here we hosted disco lit kitchen parties to the close friends, bands and crazies which would come to symbolise everything we loved about our adopted city and scene. They made this album as much as we did. 
 
We’d like to thank Andy Taylor for his skills behind the recording desk and for helping organise the chaos of each session - we’d normally turn up to his studio wanting to record far too many songs in far too short a time. He made this possible and polished our punk spirited approach.  
 
As creative people we’ve always lived by the belief that we’re only as good as our next idea and we feel we’ve still got plenty of great music to make. So while ‘Echoes’, our third album and follow up to 2016’s ‘Wild Escape’, looks back and brings us full circle to our first album ‘Calypso’, we are going to be loading the flux capacitor, jumping back to the linear timeline and bringing you another new album very soon. We can’t wait. 
 
So until then, it just remains for us to say, thanks for listening.
