It is Semana Santa (Easter) in Spain, and I had 10 days off to disappear.

Thoughts before the trip.

The end of my intensive course I undertook in Belgrade meant some celebratory beers with people on my balcony in Belgrade.

Dan was a classmate of mine and we got on well. He has an interesting story to tell. 

Some booze was consumed throughout this so pardon the swearing and the tangential aspect of it at times.

Mostar is a place you either have heard of and don't know why, and don't know it but you should.

Whenever you think of Bosnia, what enters your mind? 

The war.

Mostar was a city divided; literally. The Neretva River divides the city into two and each side of the city represents a 'people'.

One side, the Christians. The other side, the Muslims.

Without going too far into it for the fear of erroneously giving false info, have a quick Google about this incredible city and its history.

I climbed it with a free walking tour group and we drank beer on it. It used to be a gold bank and was made of glass, which is a ridiculously easy target during a war.

Thoughts From Mostar, Bosnia 'Hell On Earth', Tony August 2017

My friend Tamara from my course in Belgrade was courteous enough to suggest I visit her city, Podgorica, and stay with her family.

They had prepared a little flat they owned attached to their main house in the suburbs of the city. A city that the Guardian called 'the most boring in Europe?'. https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2016/sep/12/insiders-guide-podgorica-boring-europe-soul)

But Tamara's friend Ana, who is also her sister-in law, chaperoned me around and took me to the big park in the centre of the city for a walk, a coffee and then we went to the family restaurant for dinner and beer with her partner (Tamara's brother).

A wonderful intro to Montenegrin hospitality. 

For the audio, we spoke to two firemen stationed in the park due to the ongoing wildfires that were spreading across the Balkans.

I spoke to one of the most interesting guys I met on my trip. A Malaysian guy called Hanson who had cycled all the way from Malaysia (yes, in SE Asia) through many countries with his bike.

We spoke on a night out sitting on the steps of the University library in downtown Tirana. We had all just finished a big Albanian dinner after a local walking tour. It was a very warm night and there was a lot of booze involved.
