Tom Hargreaves - Must Be Love

This song was written by me and my 9 year old guitar student Olivia Hindley. I'd been teaching her about the 12 bar blues, and I said it would be good to try and write some lyrics to go with what we were doing on guitar. She chose to write lyrics about her late Uncle Chris; to which she did a fantastic job and as you can hear she sang on the recording too. She was honestly a natural when it came to the recording process and I'm really proud of her; as I think for a 9 year old to write a song about such an emotional subject then record the words too is amazing. I also knew Chris so the process was very emotional, but at least we all now have something to listen to in remembering him and well done Olivia he'd be really proud of you! RIP Chris. X

Olivia Hindley - The Uncle Chris Song

My guitar student Kaizer wanted to try doing something different and learn about the ways of music production in his music sessions. As he likes British rap/drill/grime music; I asked him to tell me one of his favourite tracks and he mentioned '"London" by Tion Wayne. We took the tempo of that song and off we went and wrote what you hear. Kaizer was keen to do the rapping too and he learnt what it's all about to make a track (the production process and making a multi-track record) and he did a fantastic job. X

Kaizer Mills - Dat Man

It's been a year today since the worst phone call of my life and I lost my Brother Tom. Back in the day Tom started the 'Massive Paws' rap club and we all got back together (members old and new) on Thursday to pay tribute to him. RIP Tom. X

Following the success of creating a song called 'Dat Man' with my student Kaizer Mills in his music sessions, he was inspired by the song 'Packs and Potions' to create another track. As that song references Football and many others do; I challenged Kaizer to try rapping about other sports instead. We chose Darts for verse 1 and Basketball for verse 2. I came up with a chorus to break the rapping up a bit and what you hear is the result. We hope you like it. X

Kaizer Mills - Been There (feat. Gizesque)

My student Olivia wanted to write another song on the back writing a fantastic song about her late Uncle Chris. Unfortunately her dog Ronnie passed away at the young age of 4 and this song is in memory of him. Olivia isn't a singer by nature and I teach her the guitar mainly. However, like she did with her last song once again she really stepped up and gave it her all and was a natural with the recording process! I'm really proud of her and we hope you like the Ronnie song. X

Me and my 10 year old student Anna Newbould created this track throughout late 2022. Following the success of her first song that we made earlier that year; we decided to make another track but get Anna more involved with playing guitar and bass on it as well as singing. What you hear is the final song and we hope you like it. X

Bashphelt - Voyage

Here's a track me and my guitar student Elliott White recorded a while ago. 
Initially I challenged him to write some lyrics and he chose lockdown as a subject (his Dad Iain contributed with lyrics too). We then came up with a basic chord sequence and tried different things with it in the rhythm hand. Elliott recorded all the guitar parts and I put a melody to the lyrics and what you hear is what you get.
We think everyone can relate to this as we all had to go through the covid phenomenon together and we hope you like it.

Elliott White - Lockdown 2020

This is a recording I did with my 11 year old student William Dinsdale. I've been teaching him on guitar for a while and he's done a couple of performances playing guitar. However, I didn't know he could sing and he had this song ('Daylight' by David Kushner) going round his head and said he wanted to try singing it. So we learnt the song on guitar then moved it to the right key for William to sing and I thought it sounded brilliant. Therefore, we recorded it so that he got the experience of what it's like to be a recording artist. He did really well and I'm really proud of him so please give it a listen. X

William Dinsdale - Daylight (David Kushner Cover)

This is a track I wrote with my guitar student Harley Allardice. After he performed at BOTS23 we thought it would be a good idea to write a song. We involved the technique fingerpicking which we'd been learning, and then made a start on the instrumentation and lyrics. I asked if he wanted to sing or rap on the song (neither of which he'd done before) and he decided to give rapping a go. I'm sure you'll agree he did a fantastic job! I'm very proud of him and we hope you like what you hear. X

Harley Allardice - Lost

This is an original track called "Confident" from my 11 year old student Olivia Sanderson. She came to me with a full set of lyrics and melody (barring the bridge) and I sussed out what chords would fit. We then changed the key and wrote a bridge and what you hear is the final track. We hope you like it, and I'm sure you'll agree that for her first ever original song it's brilliant. X

Olivia Sanderson - Confident

This is a track I co-wrote with my 11 year old student Eva Parnell. Eva has a great voice and I wanted to see what her voice would sound like when singing her own words/melody. I came up with a basic chord sequence/concept and asked Eva to see what she could come up with. She came back with a lot of lyrics and I was really impressed, and after some structuring what you hear is the final result. We hope you like it! X

Eva Parnell - There For You

In my hometown of Barnoldswick they host all kinds of events for children (and adults). In Feb 2023 they hosted a 'Barnoldswick Arts & Crafts' week; celebrating all kinds of creation from people within the town and the surrounding areas during half term. 
Me and Barnoldswick Town Council put a call out for young musicians to come and write/record a song with me celebrating everything that had gone on that week, and my students Ronnie, Rose & Zach came forward.

Ronnie played guitar/sang, Rose played keys/sang and Zach played guitar and did backing vocals. We tried to include everything that had gone on that week and if we forgot anyone we apologise! What you hear is the final result.

This was my student Connie's (11) first attempt at recording vocal and as I'm sure you'll agree she did fantastic job. To be honest, she was a natural and it wasn't like it was her first time recording at all.

Connie Hudson - Slow It Down (Benson Boone Cover)

This is a track I started writing in the key of G minor in 2012 that I never finished. However, coincidentally one of my heroes Noel Gallagher then put 2 songs on his album 'Chasing Yesterday' in the key of G minor ('Dying of the Light' & 'While the Song Remains the Same'), and that inspired me alongside other things to get the song finished.

I couldn't help but draw influences from the the 2 Noel G songs above when finishing off the song, with them being in the same key and being my 2 favourite songs on the album. I tried to create an epic sound like Noel G does in 'What a Life' and 'The Ballad of Mighty I'; married with the melancholiness of 'While the Song Remains the Same' and the soaring vocals of 'Dying of the Light'.

I programmed the drums and strings and I played bass guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitars and sang on the song. This is my tribute to Noel G and I hope you like it.

Andrew Robert Gilmour - Brown Butterfly

This song is called 'Still Under' and was written by my guitar/bass student Beth Thornton for her Duke Of Edinburgh (DofE) Bronze Award (skills section).
Over the space of 12 weeks I set Beth the task of writing, recording and mixing a song. As she is in to Rock music and at the time with her 3 favourite bands being Green Day, Muse and Foo Fighters; her brief was to 'Write a Rock song in the key of A minor that is influenced by Green Day, Muse and Foo Fighters'.
Each week in Beth's lessons I would set her a weekly task to write the next part of the song. We purposely tried to make the Verses/Choruses have a Green Day vibe, the Pre-choruses a Foo Fighters vibe (apart from the riff mid way through that was meant to be representative of Muse) and the Middle 8 a Muse vibe (where we added strings to give a classical feel).
As I teach Beth at her house, after 8 weeks of lessons we then used the last 4 lessons to record, mix and master the song at my studio. Beth recorded the Bass parts and some of the guitar parts (as did her brother Sam). She also played a hand in programming the drums and strings with me and I then recorded additional guitar parts to give the song some movement.
Beth doesn't like to sing, so she wrote the lyrics and I then interpreted and sang them. At that point Beth learnt how to use Pro Tools as she had to sit and run the computer as I recorded my vocals. She also sat and watched me edit, mix and master the song where she learnt about what's involved in the process of making a record.

Me, Harvey and Tom - Driving Home For Christmas

This is a track I wrote with my 9 year old student Jasmine Clarkson in 2009. I helped her structure the song using the Chords A, D and E; then I helped her write some lyrics that all Burnley FC fans could relate to. When the song was written, I knew it had potential to be really catchy and quite simply a family anthem for the club. Therefore, I arranged a meeting with the club, played and sang them the song on my acoustic guitar and the rest was history.
After the meeting, the club asked for an Indie/Rock version of the song to be produced and a video to go with it. At the time I was working closely with Bryan Fieldhouse at The Reverb Factory Ltd (http://www.thereverbfactory.com), who took charge of producing the video and I took charge of producing the song.

The Video was shot mainly at Turf Moor and the Studio where we recorded the song, here is the final outcome - http://youtu.be/XgPNIzyeOxs. The song was recorded, mixed and mastered by John Webber at Blue Pro Studio's in London (http://www.blueprostudios.com). I took care of producing the song with additional pre-production from my good friend Martin Ogden, I also drafted in Baz Rawlinson from my band 'Bashphelt' to play drums on the track while I took care of recording the guitar, bass and vocal parts. The girl you hear on the song is of course Jasmine.

With having Glaswegian parents I'm a massive Rangers fan. However, having been born in Burnley and with them being my English team if you will, I'm very proud that I managed to create something that everyone including children could connect to. It also seemed to provide a feel good factor in and around the club at the time as they were on a quest for promotion, in which the clarets were successful. The song also gained coverage with all local media, BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC News, ITV News and Sky Sports News.
